Is Christianity left unchecked by Secularism a threat?

Would Christian extremism be a threat if the West wasn't so secular? Will it be a threat in the future? Is there a possibility of a revival of Christian extremism on a mass scale? Is there even a possibility Christian extremists and Muslim extremists may unite?

Extreme views cause problems for those who hold them. It does not matter what the view is however, and even an atheist or buddhist can hold an extreme view and have problems arise.

If you, as an atheist, think that christianity is bad, then that is a view. If you allow that to be developed to the extreme, then you might allow yourself to become more and more pointed and angry towards christians. :( If I do the same thing towards non-buddhists, I might start to use extreme tacticts towards them. I might advocate killing or starving them.

It is important that I not-attach to extreme views. What other people believe or their religion is not as important. :)

Hmmm.

I think that, a lot of it, is from perceived threats from the secular world. This might be due to a recent (within the last 100 to 200 years or so) rise in vocal opposition to religion. The rise in fundamentalism is a cushion to perceived opposition and hostilities. Richard Dawkins is one of those whose doing a lot for a resurgence of fundamentalism and literalistic interpretations of scripture.

I don't think Christian and Muslim extremists have any possibility of uniting, they're more likely to fight each other. They would only do unite if there was a perceived serious (active) threat. Then they'd go back to fighting each other.

Done here.
Any dogmatic religion is a threat when left unchecked. Especially a dogmatic religion that believes it's the one, true religion.

Religious extremism is much more of a threat, when the populace is uneducated and poor. This being the case, there is less of a threat of Christianity reverting to its more extreme forms on a large scale, at the time being, than a religion like Islam, where a large percentage of its adherents are destitute and uneducated. However, religious extremism can always raise its head during times when people need a cause to rally around.
