Is God a trustworthy guide?

Will God guide my thoughts, words, and deeds if I incessantly ask him to? Been praying for that Grace to little avail.

Has God been a trustworthy guide in your life? Some of us are hopeless left to our own devices. It would be nice to have one's choices and desires guided by God.

My experience is that God does so rarely, and is not faithful to the words in scripture. I'm becoming increasingly suspicious that scripture is falsehood, though it contains some truth. If everyone avoided sex outside of marriage, theft, lying, killing, hatred, selfishness, and unforgiveness, and was humble, pure of heart, and charitable towards one's neighbor, what a pleasant world we would live in.

No doubt scripture does contain good fruit , but it is also misleading and gives false hope and expectation that God will actually intervene in our lives and work miracles and be a dependable guide. Have you experienced this?

I just know I'm in need of God's guidance and am receiving little of what I pray for.

God is not a guide, too anthropomorphic, God is a Creator and Revealer of the attributes of God. We are left to our own devices if we ignore the Revealed attributes, guidance and spiritual laws.

God is God, and God will not be faithful to ancient scripture.

Fallible human will always be fallible humans. Your expectations are more than a bit naive.

Your not responsible for 'everyone.'

The seeds of the fruit provided new fruit, which is ignored by those clinging to the past.

I just know I'm in need of God's guidance and am receiving little of what I pray for.

You will not get what you are praying for. It is already given,

Not until you are ready.

Has God been a trustworthy guide in your life?

Yes, even though I ran from Him for 30 years.

Some of us are hopeless left to our own devices.

Only if they are crippled by mentally illness. Everyone else that has agency is responsible for their own decisions.

I just know I'm in need of God's guidance and am receiving little of what I pray for.

I disagree. You have your friend (forgive me I can't remember her name). You also have people here who talk to you and try to help. Like when you relapsed not too long, or was talking about suicide. The people of this forum where there. Some offered advice, some just listened. But many were concerned. It's not a lot I admit. But better than nothing.

I find that my prayer are always answer or maybe they are just answered by others or myself. At the end of the day I do not care as long as I get satisfaction. If I think to myself if any god has been a guide in my life then I guess I will have to say yes, because at the end of the day if a god is truly behind the world than nothing can be out of the will of a god.

I used to pray without belief or conviction that God existed.

Then i prayed honestly just to know God exists. I figured that was the #1 best place to start the relationship.

They say God will meet you where your at.

Safe to say I got nothing in return out of it. Ever! All of it.

So then I said, well there must be a Truth.

And for me it was, you create your own reality, and your heart is gonna love what it loves, it's your choice, love what is right, and hate what is evil, and show mercy to people going the wrong way, love as deserves.

I saw a few good insights people take from reading the bible myself as well. But the book on the whole, doesn't breathe life, and reality. It's like banging your head against a wall to believe it.

If there is a God, it's the one who let's you pick your own self up, and live what you know is right. And let's you appreciate for yourself square 1 of life. All on your own.

If there is a God, I'm sure, he's about not comparing yourself to others, and enjoying your own challenges, and accepting things for what they are, and then making the best of it.

I don't know I'm not God

Sometimes I trust in his direction, but the pathetic human I am can never be satisfied.

The scripture was written by man, so I suspect there to be some mistakes to be had in it. But if we say that the bible is an undoubted truth of God then I would say man has corrupted it because that's what man does.

But who knows? Keep praying and maybe one day you'll get where you want to go.

No... it isn't His responsibility to guide your thoughts, words and deeds. The reason there is no avail, because it isn't a prayer "according to His will".

Now... if you renew your mind, stop being double minded, then you can hear His voice and when you ask a question "according to His will", He can answer it or reveal understanding through His word.

I tend to think God may guide us through strong feelings that we are to do or not do certain things, but first we need to check and make sure that they are moral.

I think God has always given more than what I ask. Could you tell what is the matter, where you would need God’s guidance?

I'm just extremely confused and mental illness gets in the way of making sound choices. It just seems like my world is a three ring circus sideshow and there is no escape from the insanity. I have an aversion for scripture that won't leave and feel it is my destiny to be a child of Satan. I just can't break free from insanity and don't feel God is giving any of the necessary graces to. It doesn't seem God is faithful to his word and reading scripture makes me angry , so don't read much of it.

If God would speak in a way to know his voice, I'd listen to him. It just seems when I pray, a circus freak show shows up , and I'm suspicious that I'm lead astray by Satan. Listening to people tell me what the Bible says just makes me angry. I've read the whole Bible and find it a very confusing book.

Making decisions is tough and school and every job has been a disaster. I'd much prefer my mom had aborted me. Without guidance from God it is a hopeless situation.

Perhaps, God is giving you what you really need. Perhaps, you need to stop walking on eggshells afraid to screw things up. More is learned through mistakes than anything else. You should be brave enough to step into undiscovered country just to discover what is there.

Remember we are all Living our Lessons!!! No one can do it for you. You should not allow anyone to make your choices for you.

My advice: Be who you must! It's a part of the Plan! Listen to the advice of others, but walk your own path! Life's lessons are best learned that way. If you do this, you will find that God will place you where you need to really be.

You know. I can't wait for my next great big screwup. It's going to be Glorious!!!

Stop trying to avoid Drama at all cost. More is learned around Drama than at any other time. I do not let Drama bother me anymore.

As I see it, all holy books are written by mankind. Like you said. There are some good things in all of them. On the other hand, they teach many many things that are not God at all.

Could you tell why do you have aversion for scripture?

… If God would speak in a way to know his voice, I'd listen to him. … …Listening to people tell me what the Bible says just makes me angry. I've read the whole Bible and find it a very confusing book.

But would you really listen, if God would tell the same as in the Bible?

… Without guidance from God it is a hopeless situation.

I think you could pray God to give Holy Spirit to guide you, if you want to be a disciple of Jesus. But do you really want the guidance? Why? If you think Bible message is not good, why you want Bible God’s guidance?

Are you a disciple of Jesus?

I have an aversion for scripture, because I have tested the promises, and they have come up false. I'm also bothered by scripture because it leads people to call the Catholic Church the whore of Babylon and condemn everybody as committing abominations. Scripture causes people to judge and condemn, and leaves people divided. It also contradicts itself.

I want God's guidance so that I can do his will. However, I think even wicked people do the will of God, and I think the Antichrist will do the will of God. God wants wicked people to reign, because he permits it and could easily stop it. He leaves people confused and sick, therefore he wants a sick and confused world!

Please tell one example of promise that was not fulfilled?

I'm also bothered by scripture because it leads people to call the Catholic Church the whore of Babylon and condemn everybody as committing abominations.

But if it is truth, why does it bother you?

I don’t think Bible condemns everybody as committing abominations.

Scripture causes people to judge and condemn, and leaves people divided. It also contradicts itself.

I disagree with that. If person reads the whole Bible, and understands it correctly and remains in truth, there is no contradictions. And if you want to be a disciple of Jesus, this is for you about judging:

"Don't judge, so that you won't be judged. For with whatever judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you."
Mat. 7:1-2

I want God's guidance so that I can do his will.

Bible God’s will is this:

'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
Mat. 22:37-39

Do you have some difficulty in that?

However, I think even wicked people do the will of God, and I think the Antichrist will do the will of God.

God’s will is that people love others. Wicked people don’t do that.

God wants wicked people to reign

Sorry, I think that is illogical claim. Wicked people die. And there is no promise of eternal life and high position for them. That is why I think God doesn’t want them to reign.

He leaves people confused and sick, therefore he wants a sick and confused world!

I don’t think anyone is eternally sick. That is why I think it can’t be said people are left sick. Obviously people may be sick in this world some time, but that is only result of that people wanted to know evil and God allowed us to get that knowledge in this first death.
