Because one is more parsimonious than two.

"It is superfluous to suppose that what can be accounted for by a few principles has been produced by many." - St. Thomas Aquinas.

"Among competing hypotheses, the one with the fewest assumptions should be selected." - William of Ockham

Since I provided to you a model of the Universe that does not ask for a cause, I would say that zero is also more parsimonous than one.

Virtual particles come in and out of existence, therefore they are contingent.

But not in the block universe model, do they? In this model, nothing come in and out of existence.

The "no" vote is still ahead in the polls and only a fifth of respondents voted yes. The people have spoken! :p

I mean a figure to comfort themselves
seeking comfort is natural.

death comes to all....
I doubt there is comfort in the grave.
do we dream after death?......most would say no.
but if we do....we can't wake up

have you seen the movie....What Dreams May Come?

apparently Robin Williams was not afraid....

Not really, doesnt mean majority said it is,than its right, thats why i rely on my old good friend science.
I rely on my good friend science.
I believe in God.

I do so because science does insist on cause and effect.
no experiment is valid without that association.

God is the Cause.
the universe is the effect.

God is the Cause.
the universe is the effect.
Cause and effect are truly just apparent aspects of the one expression....one movement....undivided...eternal.....apparent duality arises in the mind when conceptual thought attempts to describe universal oneness...

Fine....the source of light and the light are two apparent aspects of the one....IAM.. the light then is further divided, and that again...and that again....until we arrive at contemporary scientific theory where there are the 'ten thousand' aspects and counting...with the majority of scientists now atheist and blind to underlying unity of all that is perceived...and conceived... The light shines in the darkness but the darkness comprehended it not...:)
