They're designed for little girls.
The toys are cute, far more durable than similar lines...
The current cartoon series also is of a generally higher quality
than many others, stressing actually the qualities of individuality
and friendship.
Point being, it's not really SO stupid.
(wouldn't get my panties all in a knot over it anyway)
Their must be at least 25 little ponies in my home,
complete with little popcorn movie theatres,
balloon houses, purse shops and cupcake bakeries.
I have not yet been reduced to nightmares
or frothing at the mouth.
you tell 'em, UV!
I have six little granddaughters, who are My Little Pony crazy. In part, I think this is encouraged by my daughters, who were little girls when the first wave of "My Little Pony" madness hit. To them, I think it's nostalgic, and they love to see their little girls playing with all those cute little ponies.
I don't know why - but since time immortal little girls have been drawn to horses and ponies. I guess it's because they are beautiful and their faces are so expressive. Teenage girls seem just as drawn to them as younger girls.
They grow out of it, for the most part. I know that when I was young, I went through a stage where I loved to draw horses - their faces, their sinewy bodies, standing still, running, with their babies, etc. After about age 15 (coinciding ironically with about the time I actually had the opportunity to RIDE horses regularly - thus deflating my grandiose ideas about riding the wind on the back of a steed) this infatuation wore off.
Anyway, the "My Little Pony" show is a sweet show which, as UV says, upholds great relationship values.
Go pick on someone else!
By the way, I "get" the point of the OP, which is bemoaning a "herd mentality" which seems adolescent and sophmoric. I don't really understand that either, but for some reason, fads constantly crop up and run their course. I mean, look at hair and hat fads of the 18th century in Europe! CRAZY!
I also think that this fixation with cartoon characters - I mean the fixation by those who would classify themselves (rather dubiously) as adults - is sort of weird. Hopefully it's just a fad too - like four foot tall hats with boats on them.
