Is it moral to teach children that there are talking snakes?

Same answer as above Don. Abuse is what I see.

Regards
DL

But with efferent the message is conveyed in different ways, some pay put it n a literral fashion whereas another would make sure the child can tell the difference.

My answer still stays the same, it is not immoral, in fact it is not a moral issue altogether.

Is it moral to teach children about singing dwarfs?

Yours is an inordinantly silly question.

No singing dwarfs in scripture but there is a genocide that the same mindset applauds.

No relavance, just a good idea to lie to our children in important issues. Yah.

There is no Christian IN THE WORLD that believes that there are talking snakes. There are SOME Christians in SOME parts of the world -- mostly North America -- that teach that there ONCE WAS A talking snake. Most who speak this way realize that the story involves at least some level of metaphor, and when pressed, most will admit that. So I'm not sure that the question in the OP is even relevant.

You havent talked with a fundamental lately.

Lying to children on important issues is certainly a moral issue.

I talk to plenty of them because most of my circle are fundamentalists or recovering fundamentalists. Either way, NOT ONE of them believes that there exist talking snakes. The fundies say that there was once ONE talking snake in the garden of Eden, but NOT A SINGLE ONE affirms the existence of talking snakes after that point.

Apparently it's you who haven't spoken with a fundamentalist lately.....

Interesting how you drag the conquest of Canaan into this, ignoring completely how the people who wrote that story have never used it as a centerpiece of their moral philosophy. Perhaps the same ignorance motivated the original question.....

I think Baptists are fundamental, which would mean that I am fundamental, since I was baptized in a Baptist church. So that means that everyone here has spoken to the hated fundamentalist lately. Since I, as a fundamentalist, believe that the snake story is symbolic, then your comment was incorrect- at least about one fundy. ;)

I hope there are many like yourself. With a fragmented Christianity-various sexts- it is harder to class anyone.

Hence my description of fundamentals above.

I am pleased though that you have dicarded the toys of youth.

Probably no more or less so than teaching them that there are singing, dancing dinosours.

In other words, it's completely evil.

Yes, and the Evil Easter Bunny

Hundreds of millions of Americans lie to their children about the existence of Santa Claus.

At least the exactly ONE talking snake in Judeochristian theology existed at the very latest millennia ago, and I know of not a one Jew or Christian who believes there are any talking snakes today or teaches their children thus.

Santa does not come with a Hell.

No adult believes in Santa.

How many fundamental adults still carry such a stupid belief? Many.
They also like demons and angels and cherub and miracles in all flavours. Strange that most miracles kill humans.

I think essentially you are just looking for a way to bash Christianity. No harm is done, it is not a moral issue. I think you are being unfair to Christians.

People sometimes wonder why i get annoyed at atheists....

If the Vatican does not produce a more viable interpretation of scripture then they are being unfair to Christians.

Hard to sell a God that takes belief in talking snakes to follow.

I believe in God but not the loser comming out of the Bible.

The first God was a man, the last shall be as well.

Are there any other commandments that you would like to say have no moral value?

Maybe people need to be logical enough to tell the difference between literal and metaphor?

I dont believe God is man. That limits God to me.
