Is race a choice?

No - defining people based on these similarities is "race."

As Sunstone pointed out earlier, there is a difference it type of ear wax. Does that determine race?

That's where the societal part comes in. What level of detail will we use to determine race. I personally think that our classification of race should be determined by facial and structure.

Actually, a friend started calling me that because I am half Filipina and half Japanese. About the Joe thing. Why are american's called Joe? Sorry. Off topic.

It comes from American soldiers being called Joe. I guess it just cauht on. Where the American soldiers being called Joe came from, I have no clue.

Your third sentence is completely arbitrary and PROVES that race is a societal construct - not a biological one.

I didn't ever deny that our classification of race is a societal construct. Our genetics determine our race. What we classify and recognize those races as is a societal construct.

Depends Upon My Mood..
Why then are certain colors(since its not race)of people more prone to certain diseases?

Like Im called "caucasion" and of "northern Eropean descent" and I am at higher risk for osteoporosis than some of my "counterparts"...Im also at higher risk for skin cancer....Doesnt sickle cell anemia only afflict black people?

Im not ignoring the evidence..Its just a tad wee bit confusing me...

And if Im caucasion and thats not my race what is it?...What does it mean that Im caucasion?..If I was adopted at birth by an" Asian "family who raised me with thier culture would I then not be caucasion but Asian ???.

If I asked someone thier race and they said native American I would automatically picture them in my head with(more than likely) certain physical attributes ....

Does that make me a racist?? Or shallow somehow..??? Just askign because like I said Im confused now.(again)

This reminds me of that movie "The Jerk" with Steve Martin..He was shocked when his adoptive family told him he wasnt black...But according to this he could say he was..

No no no!!!

Genetics do NOT determine race. Society determines race based on arbitrary traits and characteristics.

So Im not really causcasion Im just in the gene pull of whities?...Because we in my family dont really have a culture..We just sort of go around and taste and enjoy others...

Im truly a mutt now..more so than I ever beleived possible.

You are called cacausaian because society has decided to call people with your color skin that.

Are you aware that people of certain groups have been added and removed from the term "caucasian"? how could that be unless it was strictly a label given by society?

Well according to the definitions of what race really is I have none. Not that I would call my own ....Expcept maybe "all of the above"...Or this adn that...or none ...

Maybe they should add the option of "sometimes" to race???

That would be my answer I suppose..

But you do have a race because it's not what you identify yourself as, but what others label you as.

So my race technically would be "not what you(they them) say I am"?..

O.K.,..I am no longer caucasion ...My race is "not defined by anyone"...

Hey!!! At least I belong..

What if scientists could find greater genetic differences between me and another white guy than they can between me and you? What would that mean?

I'm not sure what you are asking exactly but if you are a white guy from DE and your family came over on the first boat and settled there... I'm a white guy from PA and my family was on one of the first boats so I would think our DNA would be very similar in origin. As far as my DNA being different than someone in Europe who's family has been there for 5000 years sure our DNA is different but not enough to constitute a new race.
