Is religion making us all stupid ?

So called spiritual truth is only found within, books or scripture can point the way, but as you said people make an idol of the written words.
God is Spirit.
We cannot see spirit with our physical senses so the only answer to finding what we seek is to turn within.

Show us where you are, since we are required to seek you.

Matthew 7:7-8: Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

Yes, this realization when experienced is known as Enlightenment, it's a beautiful experience, and in that experince every question is answered.

Yes there is a lot of evidence that religion is certainly making us stupid, just look at the world today, what the......is happening, we all seem to be going backwards, so yes, what do you think, are we getting more stupid, I believe we are.

Religion originally was meant as a tool to develop spirituality and human values in the human being, but now it seems that it has become a tool for fostering dualistic divisions and destroying whatever spirituality and human values are left in a person.

The problem however lies not with religion, but with the state of consciousness of the man who uses it.

Just as a knife can be used by a surgeon to make a lifesaving operation, or by a fanatic to kill a so-called 'unbeliever'.

So the issue lies with the general state of consciousness of mankind.

I can speak for myself. I want to say that the Catholic faith is rich and enriches my daily breath.

And so do all other religious belief systems enrich those who believe.

I believe that each person is different than another so everyone has a difference experience in all the various religions. Some might like the new cushions on the pews at a new church they just started going to so that's good enough for them to keep attending that same church. Other people probably go to one Christmas program a year and put a few bucks in the offering plate or bag. Then a few might really believe that a man is coming in the clouds some day so they pray fervently for that to happen soon so they can escape their dreadful life here in this generation.

And there are those many millions who don't believe what you believe, and they are also contented.

Do you feel like you are more, that you are stronger than everyone else, in a sense of >Those who believe are weak<?
I am who I am, I spent years as a Christian, and when I left I grew stronger, there was a whole world out there that taught me more than religion ever could, so personally I am better of.

And why is your claim that religion made you and me suddenly stupid? Why is faith, love and hope suddenly something we should look down upon? What do you say happens when one day you will close your eyes for all eternity? What are your thoughts before you fall asleep?

I didn't say anything about you personally, but if the cap fits ?. I am don't looking down on anyone, I have only asked the question. When I die it will be no different than before I was born, that is before I open my eye's as a baby. When I go to sleep, I just sleep, ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz.......................................

I never thought I would see this behavior in my country Australia, we let these people in and all they want to do is destroy our land and peaceful way of life.

That does not prove climate change is true.

Many, including some scientists, also know that climate runs in cycles. That is the natural process of climate. There is really no scientific evidence the climate we have now will be the same in 20 years.

A few years back the left wing alarmist were crying the earth was getting colder and we were in for another ice age. That was proved wrong, so the weather alarmist invented a new song titled ---global warming. It was originally titled "climate change," but one of their smarter ones said "since climate always change" we need a better title. Now they life happily ever after, or until the climate change back to colder.

The above only works if almost all climate scientists are ignorant, dishonest, or both. Over the last several decades, there's been an increasing number of researchers who have become convinced that human actions are mostly to blame, and they arrived at this conclusion by gradually eliminating other possibilities.

So, what we have is an overwhelming consensus within the scientific community with the only opposition coming from many of the right-wing folks and those who simply are not aware of the significance of the research is and why it's so important to understand it.

To not take it 100% seriously would be like throwing garbage out a 50th floor apartment hoping that it won't hit anyone.

As I pointed out that several years ago these same people said we were going to all freeze to death. They were wrong and there is little reliable evidence for continued global warming and many scientist agree. When you get 100 percent agreement, get back to me.

O - M - G !

Ok, for the sake of discussion, let's say that the 97% of scientists who have studied this are wrong. What's the downside to escalating the pace of research into renewable energy sources? We currently give BILLIONS of dollars of subsidies to very profitable oil companies. How about instead, we give those subsidies to research on cleaner renewables?

And O - M - G - there are just too many other flaws in your response... yikes!
