Is Sponge-Bob Square Pants a 'gay' symbol?

Homosexuals just like in Canada, will some day win grounds here in America as to allowing gay marriage and making it illegal to speak out against homosexuality.

But I have yet to see any government ban adultery, and make it illegal to say that it is wrong.....Adultery is also Fornication which means, Sexual Immorality which includes homosexuality among many other Sexual sins (Leviticus 18).

Probably because the government is starting to realize that the Bible is not a law textbook.

But in MidEastern countries the Koran is a law textbook. Don't believe that it can't happen here with the Bible! People are working diligently to make it so.

Which country are we talking about here? Doing that in the US would be messing with that separation of church and state thing.

That's true, but constitutions can be altered and changes can be ratified. Our President wants such a change to forbid gay marriage. Supporters will say it has nothing to do with religion that it is a family values thing.

Amen ... Grimmjow, it is a bunch of crap. But laws are passed by those who hold the most power. The so called moral majority has worked very hard to elect politicians that espouse their viewpoints. It will take the diligence of all of us to keep them from sweeping us back to the nineteenth century with their 'morality' laws.

Sad but true........

I've gone back and forth on this but at the moment, I kinda agree with them. That is, despite the anti-homosexual verses in the bible, I don't think that the push against gay marriage is really about religion. If it were really about religion, then why don't we also have laws against eating pork and wearing clothes of mixed fibers? The anti-gay impulse - fear of the other - is already in them, and they just use religion as an excuse/amplifier. If there weren't such verses, they would interpret other verses to suit their needs, like people used to interpret the mark of Cain or the curse of Ham to refer to blacks.

Conversely, there are plenty of Christians who do not think that homosexuality is wrong, because they focus on Jesus' message of love thy neighbor.

I don't think it's the religion; it's bigoted people who want to use religion to justify their animus.

What does it mean to be a "gay symbol"? You mean like the rainbow flag or the pink triangle?

I know that Mr. Squarepants is very popular amongst at least some circles of gay men. But then so is Cher and I don't think that she is a gay symbol.

Lastly, Bert and Ernie most definitely were meant to get children used to the idea that two men could live together in a close relationship. Jim Henson said so. And miracle of miracles, society hasn't fallen apart yet.

Well... ok, maybe it has but it isn't because of Bert and Ernie.

I've seen Sponge Bob and Patric look at each other with eyes in the shape of hearts, and there was one episode in which Sponge Bob wore an apron/skirt and Patric was the husband who went out and "worked" everyday...I think they were raising the snail or something.

I'm a Sponge Bob fan. And I'm gay. But I didn't realize Sponge Bob was associated with homosexuality when I became a Sponge Bob fan. :)

Here's a question, and it really doesn't matter to me whether Sponge Bob is gay or not, so it's just a question:

How do we know that both Sponge Bob and Patrick are male?

Well, "Bob" and "Patrick" are usually guys' names, and the voice actors are guys (I assume), but sponges are basically asexual. Starfish do have males and females...just last semester I was an instigator and observer of starfish sex for a zoology class, so I know more about it than you will ever want to know.

Edit: Wait, it was sea urchins...but they're closely related to starfish.

Yeah, I know that those names are usually associated with males and the voices sound male to most people including myself. But it's still an assumption, isn't it? :p
