Weird to me that people like it so much.
Elton John should never be allowed to write "film music" again,
because it wasn't.
And as for the story, and the characters...
well I'll just stop now.
The opening sequence, 'The Circle of Life', is a perfect analogy of astrology ("til we find our place on the path unwinding...").

"From the day we arrive on this planet (Aries)
And blinking, step into the sun (Taurus)
There is more to see than can ever been seen (Cancer)
More to do than can ever be done (Gemini)
There's far too much to take in here (Leo)
More to find than can ever be found (Virgo)
But the sun rolling high through the saffire sky
keeps great and small on the endless round (Libra)
It's the Circle of Life..." (Zodiac)

It was that trailer that sold me on the movie (with slack jaw and astounded heart) and every time I watch it, I find new elements of the common myths that have been identified for Western civilization by writers like Joseph Campbell.

I don't know astrology at all so I don't personally make a connection there
but that's neat that you found something profoundly symbolic embedded there.

Still, as much as I love Joseph Campbell...
I hate the Lion King. heh heh :D
