Is the USA a 2nd-Rate, Undesirable Nation to be a citizen of?

I mean, in terms of the developed world - living conditions and the politics that govern the USA seem to be not just lagging behind the rest of the West, but actually far backwards.

I understand this graphic is quaint, but it is telling. Especially when considering the political issues that US citizens seem to consider more relevant than not.

I guess health care and gun control is missing. I'm not going to claim to have any genuine or viable answer to those.

I like most of the people I meet and get to know here. But the country has been headed downwards in over a dozen key indicators since at least the days of Reagan.

I think you could make a case nowadays that we have become a two tier society, with a top 10% of the population, and a bottom 90% --- much like a third world nation. Everything from the standard of living to life expectancy, medical treatment, and economic opportunity varies significantly depending on which tier you are born into these days.

The country has so much potential, but it's no longer living up to that potential for most of the people.

In many ways the USA is pretty backwards. The following does not apply to the wealthy, of course - we have an abominable health care system. Our education system is backwards. Social services are 4th rate. We have a "sad, embarrassing wreck of a man" as our leader. Corruption, cowardice and hypocrisy are the hallmarks of the ruling party. And so forth.

But someday this will change. We can start on this change in November. I hope we do.

I hope things will change too, but the techniques for manipulating public opinion have grown so effective over the past few decades that I wonder whether most of us know all that much about what's really going on these days.

Forgive my ignorance since I am not American, but for practically my entire life I have been hearing about the failing, backwards education system in America. So now I'm intensely curious, just how does America educate its citizens and how is it backwards?

Finnish education system isn't the best in the world, though we can still hold our own easily. If you really wanted to see the best of the Finnish education system look before the few economic depressions and eu. Education is always an easy place to save money, just like in the US.

We have been a massively successful society at taking science developments and turning a buck. It drives even religion and science interpretations. It's success turns media into a daily pulpit and that's an incredibly superficial take on life.

Is the USA leading the world in superficiality? Good question I think it might be.

I hear about what is going on in Europe and it makes me proud of America.

Trump does and says some idiotic things, but he won't be in office long, and the media seems to do a thorough job keeping him in check.

There are countries like Germany that blame the victims of migrant rapists for the way the way the victims were dressed.

We aren't quite that politically correct in America, I hope!

Europe's fine, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Despite Brexit

Trump is only kept in check by Fox News, and not often enough. If Fox is the barometer you measure by, you're in big trouble.

I don't watch Fox news, neither did i vote for Trump.

Trump is getting bashed and criticized by the media or his own party almost non-stop.

He's also a chronic joke for comedians or cartoon artists.

America won't let him go unchecked.
