True, it's happened often enough in the past couple centuries and Nature has shifted, reconfigured, and adjusted. But the less diversity remains the less adaptive ability Nature has, and, though it's hard to see from a short human perspective, Nature's already showing signs of catastrophic collapse.
Nature's complicated enough that you never know when some insignificant seeming human action might unleash a cascade of major consequences.
