Is war with North Korea inevitable?

Do you guess there will be war between the US and North Korea?

Technically the Korean war never ended. It seems Lil Kim is asking to be put out of his misery.

I don't think he will fire the first shot... but he must know Trump is bloodthirsty and reckless, and he keeps provoking him.

I feel sorry for North Korea. An empty bowl makes the most noise. Do you really think they would follow through with any of their threats?

Do you think war is inevitable?
I'm doubting it myself...but things sure are heating up.

Are there any supporters of North Korea here?

Everything they do is aimed at subduing their own population. If they can coax threats out of the USA it lends them credibility in their closed, media-dark country.

War is not inevitable but we have two egomaniacs taunting each other which could theoretically lead people into making a stupid mistake.

What makes you think Trump is bloodthirsty? Or even that reckless for that matter? Who has he killed?

Nothing my eye, Something for sure
i think our national defense officials are more level headed than Trump, and war would have to be initiated by the North Koreans. They can't afford a war, and they are desperate to defend their land, so Kim talks aggressively with great fear of losing his power, and is desperate for respect of any kind from other nations. I think America goes to great lengths to avert war here, and that's what they will continue to do. American military is showing their power here because they are forcing Kim by necessity to take them seriously because he is rogue and dangerous. it's a dicey chess game, and the North Koreans are testing the waters to establish themselves as a nation. I think America can walk that line better and longer than North Korea can.

I feel sorry for the citizens of N.K. because of how oppressed they are. I certainly hope it doesn't come down to war, as that would mean the deaths of millions of civilians. I would be in favor of annihilating the Hermit Kingdom *if* they strike us first. True, it would kill a lot of North Korean civilians which is very unfortunate, but in the end it would save more lives, because fat ******* Kim is bloodthirsty and would doubtlessly attempt to kill many Americans if given the chance. Also, every North Korean citizen hates us as Americans. They've been indoctrinated into thinking that Americans are evil, so trying to set up a westernized government there would likely fail. Having said all that, I absolutely oppose a pre-emptive strike. We should wait it out and both sides will hopefully calm down. I don't believe that there will be a war, because I don't think Kim is suicidal. But then again, it's hard to read a madman's mind.

He dropped the mother of all bombs.

He sounds to me like he wants a show of power and wants to destroy North Korea

I do stuff
North Korea is looking for allies, not war. By no means is Kim Jong-un stupid. This man is very, very smart.

So the MOAB is just a big bomb. Its non nuclear so its not as terrible as you make it out to be.

I'd say that Trump and the U.S has been extremely patient with N. Korea. But that patience is wearing thin, and diplomatic efforts have been futile. Our hand will soon be forced.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
I'm fairly sure South Korea will assist as well as Japan in some capacity if Kimmy goes ballistic. It's about time the Korean war ended for real.

The United States will only attack if North Korea attacks first, but the U.S. is not their biggest concern because Japan is threatening to destroy them with Mechs. But if necessity dictates that the U.S. is forced to get involved, it will not be a war, it will be a spanking. Two Aircraft Carriers and there is no more North Korea.

No. Neither side can win a war. The US wouldn't want to spend a decade or two occupying North Korea even without the risks of nuclear weapons going "missing".

No. RF is too libertarian (and offline the number of people who are pro-North Korea in the western world is pretty small anyway). People's views of the North Korean government on RF are overwhelmingly negative. They are more sympathetic to the people though.

RFs Views on North Korea

I have read some of Kim Jong Il's "On the Juche Idea" which is effectively north korea's bible. Its extremely repetitive, very short and a really eccentric interpretation of Soviet style Marxism but still fairly coherent. So I know they are not completely insane and there is method in the madness.
