It’s hard for me to believe that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris and their supporters do not secretly wish

Personally, I hope that Trump dies in prison.

I worry that natural causes will deprive us of this. It would be a tragedy if he died of a heart attack before his treasonous *** can be locked up.

I would consider him dying from an assassin's bullet as similarly tragic.
If Trump is elected and wins the election and then dies of natural causes or an assassin’s Buller, DJ Vance is president, and how tragic will that be?

If Turmp wins the election and is convicted and put in prison, he can still be president, which would be an interesting thing to watch and read about.

It seems to me that the main thing that let Vance get the running mate gig is that he's stupid enough not to realize that Trump eventually turns on everyone around him.
What if Vance is so stupid he accepted the VP role hoping Trump dies after winning and Vance is president?

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
Vance is all about public exposure. Before this, very few people knew who he was and now nearly everyone knows who he is.

one of the two Republican gun men had done better.
That is because you look at this situation as a "for Trump or against Trump" dynamic. But that is not the way to look at it. You should think of this as a fight for democracy, or a fight against democracy.

Trump is a threat to democracy. And these two individuals who shot at Trump are a threat to democracy. And those who attacked the U.S. Capital on Jan 6th are a threat to democracy. And we should be fighting for democracy and against the enemies of democracy.

Does that clear things up for you?

It's the reverse with all the threats if Trump loses.

Personally I think Trump needs to be in a facility to deal with his growing dementia which is clearly getting worse.

Donald Trump is the best thing that has happened to the democratic party since Barack Obama. The U.S. needs to get this fascist idiocy out of it's system again (it comes bubbling up every 70 years or so), and so does the republican party. And Trump will make that happen, because he's the real thing. And as much as some Americans think they want to live in some fascist Christian utopian fantasy world, the reality of it would scare the crap out of them. So the more Trump shows us all that he is the real thing (a wanna-be fascist despotic dictator), the more he will finally burst their fantasy bubble and wake them up to the very real and ugly danger that he and those like him present.

Their whole campaign is based on fighting Trump and his fascistoid tendencies. It would be a lot of work to reframe it, and the GOP might find a better candidate than Trump.
Harris can be quite content with an opponent like Trump.
Well Harris could wish for an even more incompetent fascist like Vance.

I hope you're right, or I see a Handmaid's Tale.

We do not know for certain that they were or should be considered Republicans. Not sure they qualify as "gun men" either.

In any case, those are not the point.

Trump and his ilk are a shameful malaise. I do want the world to be rid of them ASAP, preferably some decades ago. But even disregarding basic ethical considerations, the fact remains that it is by no means clear that killing Trump would help anyone.

Very. Which is one of many reasons why we all should aim to making him lose. Spectacularly if at all possible.

That is not a given. Neither the part about him still being POTUS, nor that it would be interesting to see him try.

Definitely not.
The GOP might have come to their senses and appointed a sane candidate.
There is that too... although I don't know how I feel about that possibility.

How sane a candidate are we talking about? Are there any still left in the Republican Party?

It would be nice to see Kamala and Walz run against a Republican ticket that promises, say, to contain fracking, to combat Climate Change and to take steps to better integrate migrants.

But just in typing that I feel that I might as well ask them to offer Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny as candidates.

I disagree. A lot of people had read Hillbilly Elegy (and more probably saw the movie). I think this was more a calculated step into the quicksand so he can take over when fatty-fatty-two-by-four rides the Big Coronary into the Sky. He came from nothing and is now rich. Speaking as someone from a similar background, nothing makes a poor person want more money than having some money.

I really do hope for the sake of America that their bubble bursts before the election
