Got any proof that the rest of the world outside the US sees communism positively? Communism is still unpopular around here and the nearby ex-Soviet states due to all those atrocities.

It depends on what you mean by "positively."

We have a much lower bar for what Americans consider "communist" than what most of the rest of the world seems to have. The general view in America is that much of the rest of the world has been historically too soft on communism and that without America's intervention and zealous dedication to anti-communism, the entire rest of the world would be ruled by Reds. Europe has socialized medicine, which is considered "communistic" by US standards. Europe even has communists elected to its parliament, which would be unheard of in the US Congress or any State legislature.

Are you suggesting that everyone in the rest of the world sees it the same way as Americans?

Communism is not generally well liked. Socialism is.

In common US discourse, the words "socialism" and "communism" are used interchangeably, implying that the prevailing view is that there is no difference between the two. Around my neck of the woods, anyone to the left of Barry Goldwater would be considered a "communist."

You should see some comments in North European discussions about socialism and you might change your mind how well liked it is... it's to the point where mistakes made by right-wing governments are blamed on socialist parties. Of course it's the same the other way around...
