This has been my big issues though. Debates are really just ways for each person to keep face which I have no interest in.
I can end a debate quickly if I am wrong and then it can go on to another debate. Being wrong in a debate seems to never occur to people. The people who debate the most tend to have the least to say.
There is some truth to this, but I think the important thing is to work out what you want to get from a debate. Other people may behave like <language filter would blush at this word>, but if you look beyond the loudest, and don't bother with changing people's minds, but just learning, there is often value in debate threads.
It can certainly be hard trawling through the haystack to find the needle sometimes, though, I'll certainly grant that.
This is about my 8th or 9th forum and it always ends tragically when people debate.
But it is fun of course for a while. I am obviously just worn out by it since I have been doing it for years
Pace yourself. I use the Jokes area as a way to come here and not debate, and just use the more serious threads for when I'm in a more serious/introspective mood.
Some take leaves of absence from time to time.
There's no right way, but once you're here, YOU CAN NEVER LEAVE!!!
Umm...I mean...Once you're here, you're part of the RF family.
