Dunno. The OP's phrasing reminds me of the phrase Allahu akbar which is often translated as "Allah is the Greatest" but actually means "Allah is greater".
Suppose person A comes up with a phenomenon X (a culture, a religion, a scientific achievement, whatever) that person B doesn't have, B can always reply that "Allah is greater [than phenomenon X] which in my eyes could be a badly veiled attempt of B to say "I am greater", but of course B is "humble", so B won't attribute it to himself but to "Allah".
A variation of the game of "My bigger brother is bigger than your bigger brother", IMHO.
Personally I see I can not know what is God. That to me is much greater than all of creation combined. Thus I feel even letters are greater than all creation, as it is written that it only took two letters joined and knitted together, B & E, to start the whole process of creation.
