Its finally happend.. CRISPR gene editing in humans.

Why would anyone think this is the first time this has been done.?

The second question is why has he told anyone?

Law breaking in China is not taken lightly.

So he must have someting in line.

And what happens when persons are found with defective DNA, will they be forced to not reproduce?
If you can edit out the bad stuff, though, why would it matter?

I can see it now, manufacturing the super race of the perfect human being.
I'm all for deleting the fatal stuff. Where we go wrong is that we don't know "bad" from "inconvenient" from "really not that big of a deal". Historically we choose the pettiest things to show "perfection". People like Nazis would kill a disabled person when that person might have had the cure for cancer in their genes. People are really dumb. Hey, maybe we can edit that out? :)

Of course, it might be cheaper and more feasible to go with advanced AI and robots.
Yeah, robots don't need to eat or sleep. I think we can all remember 1996, I think it was, when Khan Noonien Singh and his super-buddies were tossed out into space for being dictatorial jerks. :)

But feeding soldiers is already cheap, if i am not mistaken.
Feeding soldiers is cheap when you realize they're there to get shot.

Ugh, the Nazis were so stupid. It's ironic that they claimed to base their ideology on science when it was completely pseudo-scientific. They killed people with schizophrenia and alcoholism, for example, when we now know those things are treatable and controllable. Not too long after WWII, psych meds were developed. So sad.

I share your optimism that genome editing techniques will be used to delete faulty genetic mutations and insert biologically healthy genes for the spawning of a biologically superior race. I've had to use steroids and intense weight training to obtain a nearly perfect body and strength, but perhaps specimens of a biologically superior race could obtain bodily perfection without the struggles I've had to endure with body building. Steroids have given me anger management issues and have made made me a ticking time bomb ready to explode, but a genetically perfect body could obtain the same strength and physique without the nasty side effects of steroids. Right?

This researcher sparked alarm by saying he made gene-edited twins

It was inevitable and bound to happen. One has to wonder how far now will it go? And what happens when persons are found with defective DNA, will they be forced to not reproduce?

"A simple version of the CRISPR/Cas system, CRISPR/Cas9, has been modified to edit genomes. By delivering the Cas9nuclease complexed with a synthetic guide RNA (gRNA) into a cell, the cell's genome can be cut at a desired location, allowing existing genes to be removed and/or new ones added."

CRISPR - Wikipedia

Gene editing should be used to replace existing defective genes with new healthy genes Right?

Either way, there's no reason or excuse for a prepubescent child to have the musculature of an adult bodybuilder. That's just grotesque and disturbing.

Liam Hoekstra, “the world’s strongest toddler,” has a rare condition called myostatin-related muscle hypertrophy.

"Myostatin (also known as growth differentiation factor 8, abbreviated GDF-8) is a myokine, a protein produced and released by myocytes that acts on muscle cells' autocrine function to inhibit myogenesis: muscle cell growth and differentiation. In humans it is encoded by the MSTN gene.[6] Myostatin is a secreted growth differentiation factor that is a member of the TGF beta protein family."

The world is already overpopulated enough... and we keep trying to make it so people don't die... yeah, that's going to end well.

The world's overpopulated with degenerates and sickly mutants, maybe gene editing can rid the world's future generations of all these genetically defective people.

I see it as almost inevitable that some nation will attempt to create the perfect warrior -- which, if successful, will put pressure on other nations to follow suit. Of course, it might be cheaper and more feasible to go with advanced AI and robots. We'll see. I'm pretty sure we'll see.
I’ll stick with drones.

There was indeed some valuable knowledge gained in some Nazi controlled medical experiments done with hypothermia induced conditions imposed on experimental subjects.

"Robert Pozos, a physiologist specializing in hypothermia, has advocated the free use of the results, believing that they can advance contemporary research on hypothermia and save lives."

Ah, he's one of those mutants you mentioned.

Yes, he needs to be taken in and studied for beneficial medical research.

It's just so unfair, a normal bodied person like me had to vigorously work out and take steroids to get my body in shape like his; while he effortlessly can naturally have great strength and physique.

No one needs a perfect body or steroids.. right?

You mean now that they had feathers and sounded like chicken? The question is will all those indoctrinable children still have such a fascination for science

If they have defective genes, probably not.
