It's JD Vance for Trump

I mean, it was one text which I'm pretty sure he thought was private, eight years ago when he was about 31. He said this specifically, in a text to his former room mate:

he goes "back and forth between thinking Trump is a cynical arse hole like Nixon who wouldn’t be that bad (and might even prove useful) or that he’s America’s Hitler."

I've often thought the same way to be honest. And I'm not 31!
Good information. Criticism from people that would never vote for Trump anyway is probably not worth responding to be honest.

Sure, he changed his mind.
“I’m a ‘never Trump’ guy. I never liked him.” “My god what an idiot.” “I find him reprehensible.” That was from JD Vance in interviews and on Twitter in 2016, when the publication of his memoir Hillbilly Elegy catapulted him to fame. In the same year, he wrote privately to an associate on Facebook: "I go back and forth between thinking Trump is a cynical *** hole ... or that he's America's Hitler". A few short years later, Mr Vance transformed himself into one of Trump’s steadfast allies.
Well, first impressions are often accurate - until we are persuaded to backtrack on such, and demean our integrity by doing so perhaps.

The guy who once said Trump is an American Hitler is now his choice for VP. Maybe Trump thought it was a compliment! :D
At some point he’ll get too big for his boots, and Trump will turn on him. It will be interesting to see how that turns out. Probably Trumpists will take Trump’s side, and concoct some reason to dislike Vance (again). That’s the real power of characters like Trump, Putin etc. They have some instinct for instilling blind loyalty in certain types of people.

Seems the liberal world order is in the early stages of facing its first really major challenge in the last 80 years. It will be interesting (in the ‘living in interesting times’ sense) to see what comes out of the clash. I suppose a likely scenario would be a return to national mythologising, as with Putin currently. The breaking down of those national myths has left a bit of a vacuum I suppose, and the vast bulk of people don’t seem to be able to cope without their stories. What seems likely is a return to a use up everything you can, now, to get rich, now, and screw the future phase.

What seems certain in any case is a continuation and worsening of the political conflict in the US. If Trump gets in, which seems likely, he’ll use the malleable Supreme Court to limit all powers except his own. That is what many Trumpists want, essentially, the power to make people they don’t like illegal in some sense or other. Then they can shake their heads over the folly of people who break the law, as if those laws had always existed.

Haven't I just seen stuff all over the media and internet about how the shooting was the fault of the people who compared Trump to Hitler?

Am I correct in thinking that Trump just appointed someone responsible for the shooting as running mate?

Some of the MAGA crowd are upset that Vance's wife is Indian and that they given one of their kids an Indian name.
