There's beautiful stuff in the Carmina Gadelica from Scotland.
Just your luck to fall in with the presbyterians :)

Yeah, joy isn't a big feature up here. Christmas celebrations, whilst not exactly banned, are definitely frowned upon.

I left before the collection plate was passed round!
These churches usually have envelops in the pews, often with a line for name, address, and sometimes even how much money you made. The last church I went to passed it around just after services started, after the singing was done and everyone was in a good mood. (I really doubt that was intentional though. They may have damned all other denominations to hell, but they treated their own well.)

I give you credit. I would loathe going to a church service, and would have to bit my tongue through most of it. But don't worry about the holy ghost entering you. It can only do this if a) you believe in it, and b) if you want it to.

I occasionally have to attend church with my family, and it's horrible. There is nothing worse than having to attend a religious service that you do not support.

I used to go to other churches for fun. I like knowing from dat horse's mouth what's going on in other faiths. It's generally been a good experience. The most surreal was attending the Kingdom Hall. The JW's were very friendly, but when they were passing the mic around I answered the speaker's question and posed one of my own, and he just chuckled and told me to talk to a JW after the meeting. I didn't appreciate that.
