Truly, I believe the problems is we still think in terms of "industry," and industry is proving inferior to digital. The music "industry" is still sorting out the pieces from being digitized, retail industry is sinking as it becomes digitized, and numerous industries across the board are taking hits as DYI videos and guides are a few clicks away in our digitizing world. We've hit a point where it's time to leave the Industrial Age and all its associated models behind in the past and welcome an age that revolves around the digital format and easily assemble information. Once we all have 3D printers, it's essentially going to be game over for industry. It'll linger around, no doubt, but it'll be a terrible anchor weighing and dragging down the potential of the future until we sever those chains.
3D printers are extremely limited in materials, assemblies, scale, efficiency & processes.
So many things they cannot make. AI is the game changer...not printers.

What about 3D Printers with AI
They'll become more capable over time.
But other manufacturing techniques are far more versatile & capable.
No one will be printing one of these....

It's not just about size.
3D printers cannot do machining, forging, heat treatment, etc.
And materials are limited.

Currently, yes. 20 years from now, however, it may be we continue to see technology improved in significant leaps with 3D printers possibly being more available by then. We're still a good ways off from anything that resembles a Star Trek replicator, but improvements in 3D printing will toll the death knell of industry as we've known it for the past 200 years. We really don't want to be socially caught off guard when that happens.

In the news....

Now comes Briggo, a company that has created a fully automated, robotic brewing machine that that can push out 100 cups of coffee in a single hour -- equaling the output of three to four baristas, according to the company.

Using a blend of Latin American beans, the machine -- known as a "coffee haus" -- creates customized cups of gourmet coffee that can be ordered via an app, giving customers control over ingredients, espresso shots, flavorings and temperature without any human interaction. The company says no other business in the world has applied as much technology to "specialty coffee."

It'll never replace the local coffee shops we have out here:

I'll set up my lawn chair now to laugh at them when their robot can't replace dwindling coffee bean supplies.
