Iz you educated?

I am superior to all. For example, everyone seem to believe the world is round because the school teach them it. But really, just look around you, the world is flat! That alone proves I am more educated and intelligent then everyone else.

Do you consider yourself well educated? Why or why not?
Well. I'm either well educated, or I'm at least smart enough to have fooled a whole lot of well educated people into thinking that I am.
The paper in a frame on my wall says so. Nothing is more official than paper in a picture frame, so yes I am.
 I concur whole-heartedly.

I'm from California, so I'm a bottomless pit of useless information.

Violet.
I'm very well educated in the area of Music Theory.

Beyond that, school basically went in one ear and out the other.

Now I educate mySelf informally,
in things that interest me,
my own way, as inspired, and in my own time.

I am not, and have never been good at "memorizing facts" long term.
I just don't have that type of ability.
I absolutely SUCK at games like trivial persuit.
But when I connect with something on a PERSONAL and deep level,
it becomes mine, for life.

I'm educated enough. Not the best; not the worst; good enough. Kind of how I do pretty much everything in my life. Good enough. I don't do my homework as best as I can; I do good enough to get an A, (or a B if I'm settling for a B in a certain class) I don't clean my room perfectly; I stuff things under my bed and in my closet so it looks clean: Good enough. and that is just about how educated I am: Good enough. (or you might rather say Well enough)

I do not consider myself well educated, schoolastically at least. Nor do I consider myself all that intelligent. Very imaginative, yes, in a literal sence. Not all that metaphorical though irony sometimes breaks through the surface. I am a conduit of wisdom yet have none. I am undefined in the physical sence and so therefore, blissfully, do not exist.

Done here.
Do you consider yourself well educated?
No.

Why or why not?
Because there's so much I don't know. I don't understand calculus or physics, I can't speak Italian or read Amharic, I've never traveled much, I've hardly read any of the world's great literature (and half of what I have read was in translation), and I don't know much about art or music or automobile repair. I'm a dabbler and a dilettante and I hate myself.

On the other hand, I have a vast reserve of useless knowledge. I know the Bible pretty well, and I can name the Presidents of the U.S., the Kings and Queens of England and the Tsars and Empresses of Russia in order. I know my Komneni from my Angeli, I know who was who in the Wars of the Roses, i know the lyrics to almost every Johnny Cash song, and I've read everything Flannery O'Connor ever wrote at least five times.

I do know a few useful things. I can build a log cabin or frame a house if I have to, I can lay tile if you're not in a hurry, and I can install plumbing if it doesn't have to be pretty. I know how to can vegetables, how to make a Mornay sauce, and the easy way to scrape "popcorn" off a ceiling, and I could distill my own moonshine if I weren't afraid of getting caught. And as Scarlett O'Hara said, I can shoot straight if I don't have to shoot too far. :D

I'd like to think I am, but in reality I know that there is still a lot that I want/need to learn. No one is ever truely educated because there is always something they have not learned yet.

Being educated doesn't necessarily mean knowing everything in the entire world. Even if you know just one specific thing, you should still consider yourself educated. Technically, someone else in the world may not know what you know. Does that mean they aren't educated because they don't know what you know? No, it doesn't because they may have more knowledge about something else that you know nothing about.

Anyone can be truly educated even if they only know information about one topic. I don't know everything but I still consider myself educated. I can do math, speak English and some other languages, I know some big words, I know some things about Anatomy... I don't know anything about mechanics, but who cares. It not my genre. It doesn't mean I'm stupid and not educated. Everyone in this world knows something. Even those children that were not lucky enough to go to school... They are still educated with the values of life and various other things.

I am sure you are very smart Demonic Kitten. There is no doubt in my mind that you know something I don't. Same thing with everyone here. :)

The more I learn the less I know.. Every time I think I know something I panic until i realize that I know nothing again. Knowing nothing makes me happy...

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
Considering that I am a product of American public schools and public colleges, I would not consider myself particulary well EDUCATED.

I am, however, well read and well traveled. I'm also very curious and energetic, which means that I can get into a lot of trouble and then have to act quickly and creatively to get out of it.

I love history and current events - because of the insight into human nature and character. My favorite question is still "Why?" even though I'm not five anymore.

I've crammed a whole lot of experiences into 47 years of living - and so I think I've learned a lot of practical stuff - mostly from my own mistakes. Nothing like having to do something over again right for effective "larnin'!"

One final thing - I have cultivated a couple of disciplines that I think have really helped me gain some wisdom (I know - I know, that's not the same as EDUCATION!).

The first one is "Seek first to understand." That basically means ask a lot of questions before jumping to conclusions. This can save you some embarrassment.

The second one is making myself ask myself, "OK, you screwed up - now - what can you learn from this?" rather than just blindly doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

I've made a lot - a LOT - of stupid mistakes in my life. All in all, there's nothing like that old school of experience when it comes to a teacher.
