Jesus died, not such a big deal

Some Christians sing the praises of Jesus as he supposedly died to 'save' us. But even if that was true, what was the big deal? Other people have died when saving others and stayed dead, not having the supposed privilege of popping up alive three days later. Therefore people who deliberately put themselves in harm's way to save others, knowing they will probably be killed in the attempt, are more worthy of praise than Jesus, who knew he wasn't going to stay dead for long, if the Bible stories had any credence .

How is Jesus any different than an American veteran? The difference I see is that Jesus was a convicted criminal, even if he was falsely convicted. I used to believe that all these veterans that have died in foreign wars were dying for me and my freedom, until the war in Iraq. Those veterans didn't die for me, or freedom or for ****. I feel for those who survived because even many of them feel like they really weren't fighting for anything good. It woke me up.

More than 100,000 Jews were crucified about the time of the death of Jesus. Jesus is not unique. Over 1,000,000 Jews died in the Roman war against Jerusalem ending in 70 C.E. We will never forget 6,000,000 Jews dying in Holocaust. All through history multitudes of Jews being killed.

My point is that Israel is the suffering servant of Isaiah. By Israel's wounds, we are healed. Jesus was not alone in being the suffering servant, all of Israel is the suffering servant. Jesus was just one of many. So I wouldn't waste a whole lot of time focusing on him.

This is the crux of the Christian faith, right? So, the idea is that Jesus acknowledged that we are all flawed and do some really stupid things. GOOD NEWS! He loves us anyway and forgives us for those times we screw up. The next question, of course, is why do we care about his forgiveness and unsolicited affection? Well, this brings us to the second main focus of who Jesus actually was, according to the Christian faith. Enter: The Messiah Principle. Feel free to read up on this, but the basic idea is that he is God in the flesh and is here to visit for a bit. So, why is he getting plastered a few 2x4s important? Welp, a condition of Jesus' divinity was that we was going to be resurrected which is important because...

The resurrection of Jesus is important for several reasons. First, the resurrection witnesses to the immense power of God Himself. To believe in the resurrection is to believe in God. If God exists, and if He created the universe and has power over it, then He has power to raise the dead. If He does not have such power, He is not worthy of our faith and worship.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is also important because it validates who Jesus claimed to be...

Another reason the resurrection of Jesus Christ is important is that it proves His sinless character and divine nature.

This is tough to tackle. In a sense, you are speaking two different languages. On the one hand you are talking about something very real and concrete. There is evidence and experience when we begin to talk about individuals who risk something for the benefit of others. When you begin to talk about Jesus we are beginning to address faith, belief and emotion. These are a bit tougher to materialize.

So, to conclude. To someone who isn't a Christian, yeah, the entire existence of Jesus isn't ground breaking news. But to someone who is a believer, it is everything.

Congratulations, you've discovered that the mythos of Jesus Christ is not important to you and is not one of your sacred stories. Leave it be and move in to the stories that are sacred to you, while respecting that it is a sacred story for other people.

I agree with you. People that focus on Jesus' death and resurrection are focusing on the wrong things (which unfortunately I believe includes some Bible writers). But I am still pro-Jesus and won't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

I believe the big deal is that no-one else is able to do so (save us from sin) including ourselves and no-one else has the offer that He makes.

I believe I don't see why it is praiseworthy to die. I would rather praise someone who can save me and live to save me again.

I won't quote your heading for this response BECAUSE it is a very big deal! No matter how you discount it, the fact of the matter is that His death was to forgive us of our sins! The creator God Himself, came in human flesh to redeem all mankind of our sins, and deserves all the praise and thanks that we can give Him. He did arise, to defeat death for all who believe in Him.
His forgiveness, through His death and resurrection, canceled the sin debt from past, present and future, He does not have to die again, He lives on forever. And welcomes all who believe to join Him.

I believe that the 'sacrifice' is conditional. If it was all sins past present, and future, outright, you would not have a judgement, so forth

Yes I never thought it was a big deal either, I use to hate it when people carried on as if he died yesterday, helloooo, its was suppose to be over two thousand years ago, get over it.

The focus inference is incorrect, i agree. The sacrifice is more symbolic than anything
Yes I don't even think about the sacrifice as being someone nailed to a cross, I see it as myself dropping my carnal self to become my true Self, the Christ.
