Jesus is actually a demigod, born by a God and a human.

Why do a number of people consider Jesus a God, when he's actually a demigod?

Demigods were not unusual at the time given ancient Greek and Roman stories had a number of them.

Jesus can't have been God anyways in light that that he was the offspring from a human merger between God and Mary producing Jesus.

Agree/disagree?

Nowhere Man,
Jesus was not a demigod!!! This is a word made up by man, and the only time this actually happened was recorded in Genesis 6:1,2,4. The offspring of the mating of women and materialized angles were called Nephilim. These were huge and brutal men, called fellers, which means they killed men, but it is recorded in ancient Jewish history that they also killed wild beasts that posed a threat to people.
The reason that Jesus was not a demigod was because Jesus was not a New life, God took his essence, and put this into Mary and caused it to produce Jesus as a human on earth.
The Bible, in several places calls Jesus a man, and the Bible never says anything about him being partly god and partly man, Romans 5:12-15, 1Corinthians 15:20,21,45,46.
Something very important to remember; Jesus came to earth to give his life for all who would believe in him, John 3:16. Jesus was a corresponding Ransom, a perfect Man, so that we could gain back what Adam lost for us, Perfect life, endless life. Adam was perfect, but he became imperfect when he sinned against God, Jesus was that second Adam, a perfect Man, that because of his Great Sacrifice we, who believe in him and follow him can live forever, just as Adam could have, 1Corinthians 15:45-47, 1 Timothy 2:4-5.
Jesus was not a demigod, and he was not an incarnation!!! The only time that Jesus could be called an incarnation was after his death, when he appeared to his disciples,1Corinthians 15:3-9. Jesus was a perfect Man, just as Adam was a perfect Man, and Jesus received the Anointing from God, His Father at his Baptism, Matthew 3:16,17, Luke 3:21-23. Agape!!!

Disagree... the body was just a created encasing. He wasn't a merger between God and Mary as no union was required for God to create... Mary was just a vehicle for God to come into the world legally.
Then why was Mary even used if there was no actual merger?

If that was the case, then why was it considered a birth? That would seem to suggest there was a merger between human and God. There would have been no real need for Mary at all otherwise. God could have just sent Jesus down as a human who appeared out of nowhere.

  1. Was born of the Virgin Mary.
  2. Has always existed as God.
These are not mutually exclusive propositions. Jesus is both God and man. As God He has always existed but as man He came into the world at a specific point in time. As man He was conceived and as man He was truly born in real earthly history with Mary as His mother in every sense of the word. Yet even as man, God does not cease to be God.

On the point that Christ in no any way whatsoever ceased to be anything less than fully God almighty, we need to clear another point up. Christ is not an incarnation of God. Christ is God, who became incarnate. The distinction is subtle but it is real and extremely important. Jesus is not a god, nor an emanation or form of God. Jesus is God, has always been God, and will always be God.

I disagree. Although poetic, it is specific and clear. It is an explicit identification of the preexisting Logos (Christ) as God. It also explicitly affirms the incarnation in verse XIV.

Musing Bassist,
What you say is something that many people believe, you could say something inveterate, a home truth, even a Sacred Cow. BUT, this belief is a false belief that was started by the Greek Phylosophers, and never a belief taught by the early Christians. The truth about God and Jesus, can be called; an Article of Faith, which must be understood correctly in order to be acceptable to God and Jesus.
Jesus, himself, said that the Fsther is greater than I am, John 14:28. Jesus also said, in prayer, that his Father is the one True God, John 17:1-4. Jesus said that his Father was his God and his Father, John 20:17. Jesus said that he lives because of the Father, John 6:57.
Three different times God spoke to Jesus, from heaven, Matthew 3:16,17, Mark 9:7, John 12:26-28. If this was not really God speaking to Jesus from heaven, then it was complete deception. The Bible tells us that God hates deception, and there was no deception in Jesus, Psalms 5:6, 1Peter 2:21,22.
The Bible tells us that God is immortal, which means that He cannot die, 1Timothy 1:17. God made Jesus a little lower than angles, he could die, and did, to save us, Hebrews 2:9, consider also what verse 10 says that through suffering Jesus was made perfect. Is not God, Jesus’ Father Perfect???
There are many, many places in the Holy Scriptures that prove that God and Jesus are different, but two places should prove to any person with a good heart, that they are two people is Daniel 7:13,14, and Revelation 5:1-8. In each of these situations Jesus came into the place where God was on His throne, and received something from the hand of the one sitting on the throne. How could anyone thing they could be the same person??? Deuteronomy says that our God is one God.
Please believe what the Bible says, and NOT what someone says it says!!!
Agape!!!

totally disagree. jesus is the Son, the Son is fully God. he took the form of a human in mary's womb and was given birth in a human form. why? to save humans from sin.

Then why is Mary called the Mother of God and needed/required to give birth to Jesus? Still sounds like a demigod to me.

the Son must take a human form (jesus) and come to earth like all humans do by birth (his human form).

mary didn't create the Son. the Son is full god and pre-existed Mary. the human form jesus isn't a demigod. jesus was 100% god (the son) and 100% human when he walked the earth. a demigod is half and half.

Then having Mary as a mother is pointless.

no it's not. the Son took the form of a human seed and then the Immaculate Conception happened so that the son would take his human form. mary was essential and the most honored human.

[Jesus] said, "Indeed, I am the servant of Allah . He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet. 19:30 Qur'an

It is not [befitting] for Allah to take a son; exalted is He! When He decrees an affair, He only says to it, "Be," and it is. 19:35 Qur'an

then it would follow that all has existed with god, given god is not a respecter of person. divers weights and measures are an abomination to god.

On the point that Christ in no any way whatsoever ceased to be anything less than fully God almighty, we need to clear up another important distinction. Christ is not an incarnation of God. Christ is God, who became incarnate.
again god is not a respecter of person; so all are an incarnation of christ as colossians 3:11 states.

The distinction is subtle but it is real and extremely important. Jesus is not a god, nor an emanation or form of God. Jesus is God, has always been God, and will always be God.
so has all others. nothing exists part from God, because god is omnipresent in all things she created. this is why it is written be still and know that I AM god and I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:

I disagree. Although poetic, it is specific and clear. It is an explicit identification of the preexisting Logos (Christ) as God. It also explicitly affirms the incarnation in verse XIV.
true, john 1:

3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

nothing was made without, or outside of him, or apart from him, or besides him.

him being inherent in all things created.

agrees with:

Malachi 2:10
Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us? why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, by profaning the covenant of our fathers?

we have one father, which is Our Father.

untrue, god is not a respecter of persons. it says honored. it doesn't say most.

How is that not a demigod?

A demi-god is part god. Jesus is believed to be fully God. Either god or God has power over natural and physical laws to do whatever is necessary to accomplish a task.

Disagree.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. John 1:1-3

And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness:

God was manifested in the flesh,
Justified in the Spirit,
Seen by angels,
Preached among the Gentiles,
Believed on in the world,
Received up in glory. 1 Timothy 3:16

in the flesh doesn't exclusively mean in a man.

used of natural or physical origin, generation or relationship

the first instance of this would be the lump of clay becoming a living being known as adam.

interesting aside, you even recognize that once a person understands that they were born of the spirit, they are no longer exclusively flesh. the flesh takes a form; which is not exclusive to the Spirit.

once a person understands they were born from above, they start to disattach to the form, or flesh from below. no one ascends up to heaven; except the son of man who came down from heaven. john 3:8

this is christ being lifted up

It could still be argued that Jesus is part god as opposed to full God, a demigod, given the accounts of the miracles he performed for which God qualities are attributed, part man for which all vulnerabilities and fallibility are said to have applied to him.
