I think that this is a much bigger deal in understanding Jesus' ministry than Christians prefer to consider.
Jesus was executed as a violent antiRoman seditionist. I think He was, and the reason Paul invented a new religion is because the Apostles weren't about to tell him what Jesus' real message was. He was known as a Roman operative killing people like them.

The historical details are obscure, but I recall that Judas is a member of the Sicarii. Jesus twelve disciples are out of favor with the establishment for almost twelve different reasons. I remain unconvinced about Paul being the inventor. Paul may not even be a single individual. There's no guarantee of when Christianity starts, and what are the odds that it truly begins before the fall of the 2nd Temple? Those odds are low. It doesn't really matter. What matters is if you believe in the atonement or not and are willing to convert. Conversion is what matters.

The historical details are obscure,
This is some strong evidence that the Jesus in the NT was more legend than historical.

Put yourself in the early 1st century Judea. Jesus is a moderately well known figure. Thousands of people will follow Him out to the hills to listen to Him preach, 5000 at a time as is written. Then He is arrested and convicted and sentenced to crucifixion. On the busiest day of the year He is dragged through the streets, scourged and bleeding. Then in front of everyone, He is nailed to the cross and left to die.
A few days later, He reappears. Better than new, healthy and solid, He goes on preaching! For 40 days, He is right there with hundreds and hundreds of people at least.
But nobody noticed this enough to make a public issue. Nobody started recording everything possible about His life, or started public demonstrations that would seriously upset the Romans and their wealthy corrupt Jewish lackeys.

To me, this is beyond implausible. Especially when a much more plausible explanation exists. Jesus, as described in the gospels was a later figure of legend.
