Now you are getting a glimpse of the problem.

Pull back just a bit more from the cave wall.

Maybe gradual release from it's iron grip is what you need.

Godnotgod, my savior! Do pull me from my wretchedness up to whatever crappy website you were spamming from!

Initiation prior to going topside is to partake of thy own ego-crap.

Heh..heh...soon you will be kissing the sacred ground of terra firma those crappy websites rest upon, instead of kissing yourself, when you finally see them warmed by the Radiant Sun.

Hallelujah! Another soul brother saved by and for Truth and Justice!

You're talking about those who deny all historicity and manuscript evidence, and rely on nothing but new-age websites that don't have any actual citations, right

That must be why they're mystics, whose knowledge goes beyond the little scraps of paper.

I'm not a mystic, so this is probably not ok, but I've spent years being friends with many and learning from a few: I really wish you wouldn't pretend you have any idea what mystics are or that you can speak for any other than equally pop-culture, westernized, internet spoon-fed "instant" mystics.

Well, for one, Gnostics are considered mystics, and if you read up on them, you will see that they (like Zen Buddhists and other mystics) place secondary importance on scripture. The common characteristic of all mystics is the attainment of divine union within their own being, which is the primary source of their understanding. Therefore, 'little scraps of paper', including mss and any other texts, are of secondary importance to them.

All knowledge and academia, as far as the mystic is concerned, is secondary to, and sourced from, direct experience of Reality, but not perceptual reality. It is, in part, as Alan Watts puts it:

"...an intense clarity of attention to that indefinable and immediate 'point' of knowledge which is always 'now', and from which all other knowledge is elaborated by reflective thought. A consciousness of 'life' in which the mind is not trying to grasp or define what it knows."

I'm not interested in what you consider to be anything. A fundamentalist mystic isn't a mystic in my book and isn't in any whom I've met. And, thanks to having trained with Eastern experts among other lucky life experiences, I've met many. The best you can do is try to imitate their youtube posts.

There you go with your mouthfoaming blabber while in your hypnotic trance.

You don't know what you're talking about.

There is no such thing as a 'fundamentalist mystic'.

There is no doctrine or belief in the mystical experience to have a fundamentalist position to apply to.

All your 'training with Eastern experts' has come to naught.

I've provided the correct information regarding mystics in relation to academia. You don't need to believe anything I say. All you need do is go check for yourself. But first you need to stop the foaming at the mouth charade.

How do they attain this "knowledge" exactly? Prophetic revelation or arriving at philosophical conclusions you happen to agree with?

How do you decide which "mystical" tradition is right? Many of them have quite conflicting ideas.

While there may be exceptions I am not aware of, the general approach to access mystical knowledge is via direct contact with the Infinite source that can be found within all people. Meditation and yoga are two methods.

Mystics are not philosophers. Philosophers formulate conceptual models about Reality; mystics access Reality directly, but as I stated, it is not perceptual knowledge. The key word would be 'transcendence'.

All academia, all written knowledge, all scripture, history, etc. is about these experiences. These come first, then comes the academia. I am sure you are aware of Yeshu's statement:

Investigate the scriptures; for in them you think you have the life that is eternal, and they testify of me.
John 5:39 Pe****ta

That's the best I can do for you. Sorry.

Ok, I've had some "mystical" experiences like the times I took Salvia Divinorum (Which is 100% legal, admins!), and they confirmed my beliefs on the soul and the universe, does that make me a mystic?

Oh yeah, I also hold a few "Gnostic" beliefs as well, does that also make me a Mystic?
