The Lost One
in Ancient Greece, during the archaic period, pottery were often painted, representing historical and mythological figures. how they painted and fired the pottery, the figures were painted black with reddish orange background. This style of painting was known as Black Figure.
Does that mean the Greeks were black as those in Africa?
But in the late archaic period and throughout the classical period, the Greek pottery painters began to reverse their style having black background and the figures were painted red or reddish orange, known as the Red Figure style.
Does that mean the Greeks changed from black to red people?
I don't see how that possible. The style of painting is not indicative of what skin color have.
Contemporary to the red figure styles with pottery paintings, are wall paintings that have different style of painting, which depicted the figures in more natural looking colours, showing Greeks as they are now Mediterranean complexion of olive tone and sometimes fairer in color. And this point, the painting colours of skin of the figures matched those in the Bronze Age Minoan wall paintings, some figures are white (more often women) and some are reddish.
But as Kelly of the Phoenix and David McCann have pointed out Nubians did conquer Egypt in one or two period, as did Egypt conquer Nubia several times in its history, so some paintings are actual indicative of the skin color of certain people. Several times, Egyptian rulers would employ or use Nubian warriors as mercenaries. But these are not indicative that all Egyptians were black.
