do you see these dead cows from the movie promised land? they represent a threat to religion, do you agree?

I am just glad that crazyness isn't contagious.

they go to satan's synagogue and are in the best place to be for those who reject the lord of the israelites because that is the place they will find their rewards.
Lol ... So is this the real land of honey and milk ?

i was accused of being off-topic. let's see if i can remain on topic.
moderator: if i am off-topic again, i apologize. please let me know how it was off-topic. then i will fix it.

The instant that you claim that a movie is the authoritative explanation of the afterlife in accordance with Judaism, you've gone off-topic.

Then open up your own Matt Damon movie Afterlife thread. It has nothing to do with Judaism, while my answer actually has. Too bad you know nothing about Judaism.

Hey there.

I am very much familiar with Islamic and Christian theology having studied it intensely on and off for three years.

Recently I decided to teach myself the Hebrew Alphabet and now I am interested in getting to know what Jews believe.

Are there any Jewish members in here?

I am thinking of questions like these:

What do you believe about the afterlife?
Is there anything that could be considered equate to Hell?
Are there different degrees of rewards?
Is it physical?
Will non-Jews be there and if yes, why then be Jewish?
Will I get to eat chocolate there (kidding).

Thanks a lot and sorry for the bad English.

All religions are to provide an explanation on what would happen after death. There are 2 possibilities, both require faith to believe.

1. nothing serious would happen
2. something serious would happen, you thus need to responsibly seek out what could possibly happen

2. is a responsible act about your own life, if you choose to give it up, well in the end it's your own life which you decided at a point to give it up.

That said, today's Jewish view about hell has nothing to do with the Judaism view 2000 years ago. Today's Judaism was revived/re-engineered after AD 70.

Read Josephus' work if you want to know the dominant Jewish concept about hell/sheol 2000 years ago.

i didn't say it was authoritative (is any discussion of jewish afterlife authoritative?), just that it was a representation of judaic afterlife. it is certainly worthy of discussion. that's why i have put in so many citations from torah and bible. they are meant to justify further discussion.

No, none of your representations are worth discussing. They have nothing to do with Judaism.

they have everything to do with judaism. they are the most important representations in this godless world. the world does not know a better representation of satan's synagogue and promised land.
y'see...that's where you go off the rails. Assuming this notion of "Satan's synagogue" means you are starting completely outside of Judaism. So this movie and whatever you think it represents? Nothing to do with Judaism. Your commentary on it? Nothing to do with Judaism.

not true. they are within because they are jews.
You asked me a question. I, as a Jew, answered it. You now tell me that my position, that of Judaism is wrong, and yours is right, even though you speak with no authority about (or knowledge of) Judaism. All this explains why your posts are meaningless.

i did not mean to give you your position, only to say that the jews for jesus are a way of seeing things, hence the question within or without phrased as a sentence.
Yes, and Christianity is also a way of seeing things, as is Buddhism. But they are also not a way of seeing things that has anything to do with Judaism.

I myself am no Jew. And the only information i gathered about Judaism or Christianity is from the Bible. The Old Testament, which is the major sacred scripture for Judaism, doesnt directly speak of an afterlife. However we can find passages which tell us about the righteous being raised from death to life and a new heaven and a new earth being made for these people. So it seems as if biblical Judaism is primerely advancing a view where you get to live on a new earth, most likely with delight of company, as a ressurected person. The Bible also mentions a place for the dead before they are resurrected and those who were wicked. This place is the grave or 'sheol' a dark place similar to the greek 'hades'. Apart from this i couldnt find any reference to a hell or a heaven in the sense as we have it in Christianity or Islam.

When I was trying judaism, from chabad.org, I remember sth like this: there are levels in jewish world to come ( i still like to call it like this) The jewish prophets are on the 1 st floor, then comes the jews or gentile prophets, then gentiles, etc. The gehonnom is not a hell for ever, just a punishment department of the next world.

So,where to put jewish nonbelievers on these levels, among jews or among gentiles?
