Namaste,

You do realize that question wasn't directed to the OP, right?

You do realise that the OP is muslim right?

Is he an islamic islamophobic?

You have got to be kidding. Book of revelations. Read it.
Its all about the end and jesus slaughtering unbelievers.

You know there are some problems between jews and muslims. But guess what i still prefer Islam over Christianity.

Stop derailing this thread. Its about muslims and jews..

If you start on the defensive then I believe your missing the point of my post.. I intended to promote the similarities in our theologies and discuss the differences..but all I see is an emotional response..not what I had intended at all..If I wanted to promote name calling/Islamophobia/Judophobia I would have posted in the hundreds of other threads

Namaste,

Thus, I tried to get the convo back on track by asking if the posters are going to address the main concerns of the OP through a comparative analysis (since this is under "comparative religion")...or are the posters going to resort to Islamophobia...

Why is peace so elusive is back on track. Yes or no?

Peace is a gift. It is not man made imo. I have read on this thread this; I will except you as my neighbor but never as my friend..... That is the problem, isn't it?

I have a lot of respect for Judaism and the Jews I have encountered in my life. I think they were pivotal in the history of religious monotheism and were shown great favor by God. Someday I hope to learn more about their creed. We are the descendents of brothers Isaac and Ishmael alay salaam.

I wanted to discuss the similarities of our Monotheistic religions..We worship the same God..Just call him by a different name.. Unfortunately IMO Christianity has confused that concept.. It has always been about One God..

“..'We believe in that which had been revealed to us and revealed to you, and our God and your God is One, and unto Him we surrender." Quran 29:46

That being said..I would appreciate if Jews or Muslims reply in a constructive manner..

Peace

P.S The verse in its entirety wouldnt fit in my signature so I had to edit out the last bit..

".. And if they turn away, then say: Bear witness that we are they who have surrendered (unto Him).“ 3:64

Thats the purpose of this thread..To leave the political hatred on one side and discuss the finer points of our creed in a respectful manner.

I'll have to chip in to answer the OP later, but I'm too preoccupied at the moment to give a detailed answer. I will just say for the time being that the internet is usually a fertile ground for bickering because all sides are eager to push their rationale and political points and to make the other side see their POV, but from my experience in general, in real life when I communicate with Muslims, a great deal of the time we focus on life, whether it's work, business, or even friendly socializing and set aside our political agendas (whatever they may be). With many, the political issues don't even come up.

On the internet, I tend to enter into plenty of debates with Muslims, because a majority of the activity here is debating, so that's what we do. Ironically, in real life things get to be more mellow, relaxed, and functional.

I agree but it is a religion that teaches God will kill all those Islam says are not innocent. I know JWs teach the same thing. I believe no one must become like another person to be saved. But I believe very strongly in salvation. I do not know of any religion that teaches salvation except for true Jews. The world we see will get rid of Jews. Doing so is the same as destroying salvation imo neighbor.

If you believe in God and do good deeds you have nothing to fear. This is our salvation.

I am posting this thread in the hopes of promoting the commonalities of these two historically connected religions and am an advocate for Peace in the Middle East.. My religion teaches me to respect the People of the Book but I see alot of hatred being projected towards each other from both sides..Upon researching Judaism I find that our concept of God is very similar if not identical..we both eat Kosher/Halal meat sacrificed in the name of a monotheistic God.. If we agree upon worshiping the same God..what are our differences about? And why the Hate!? How hard can it be to move forward and peacefully co exist again?

Discuss.
I'll put aside for a minute the whole discussion about the reasons for modern animosity between Jews and Muslims, or whether Jews lived peacefully in Islamic territory in past centuries so we can get a respectful discussion going instead of focusing on disagreements first.

I guess I'm going to simply describe my experience. While one my side of my family is of European descent, the other side immigrated to Israel from North Africa in the early 50's. Basically while these people are Jewish, they are Middle Eastern, and their language (while starting to shrink) was a Jewish dialect of Maghreb Arabic. So prior to the mid 20th century there was a long standing Jewish existence in the Muslim and Pre-Muslim middle east (without going into the debate if it was a peaceful existence or not).

In my daily life, I mostly work with Arab Muslims. They can be Palestinians from the West Bank, Arabs from Northern Israel who hold Israeli citizenship, or Bedouins from the Negev desert area. In general, our working and social relations are good, and sometimes excellent. ATM I'm finishing my second month of excavation, and while we have both Jews and Muslims workers on site, by far my best working communication and general relations is with the Muslim workers, who I consider to be more mature and experienced for this job than the other smaller work force of much younger Jewish workers we brought on site. And BTW, my direct boss is a Muslim Arab who got one hell of a job title.

While I do travel all over the place (from the Pacific to the Caribbean, nearing the north pole, and everything in between), I also have an ever present interest to traveling Mid eastern nations which I have access to (and perhaps some that I don't when I get a European passport in the future). While like many Israelis I vacated in the Sinai peninsula (when it was safer), unlike most of them I journeyed to Cairo a few short months before the revolution of 2010, and south as far as Aswan and closer to the Sudanese border where I traveled the important Egyptian temples. I also traveled Jordan several times in the last few years, not shying from trekking and sleeping in the wilderness for a week. Turkey is another destination I'm planning to return to and explore better as well.

In general I'm very receptive to studying about Islam. I did read the Qur'an both in Hebrew and in English (my Arabic is not strong enough), I read plenty of academic literature about Islamic history and religion, and on many occasions had theological discussions with Muslims I've met in work or travel. I pretty much consider it an essential for me as a Mid Eastern Jewish man to be up to date with the Muslim world in my region and outside my region.

I view friendship and loving-kindness as more fundamental to human nature than any abstract creed. I don't think that it should ever be determined via reference to some holy rule book or conformity to a herd mentality of animosity. Being friendly only due to theological/religious similarities cheapens the essential experience, but tribalism dies hard unfortunately.

As a caveat, I am an American Orthodox Jew who strongly supports the Jewish State of Israel and would like to see all of the Arabs in Judea and Samaria (and in the surrounding areas of Gaza; Syria; Lebanon; Egypt; and Jordan) to accept Israeli dominance and/or rule. I believe that would go a very long way towards stopping the current insane fratricide and self destruction of all of these Arab peoples in and about Israel.

That being said, it is also worth pointing out that Islam is not Evil.
There is a large contingent of Israel lovers and/or Muslim haters who blame all of the current problems in the Muslim/Arab world on the false notion that it is Islam itself; Mohammad; Allah; etc. that is inherently corrupt and evil.
This is obviously totally untrue when viewed in the light of history.
For Jews and even other non Christians, one could say that Christianity was a total house of horrors for the last 1500 years while Islam was often a house of refuge.

Islam, like every other religion, has gone through various good and bad phases.
Mainstream Christianity is currently going through a phase of true repentance and love and, in many ways, Christians are the best friends Jews could ever have.
However, the Muslim/Arab world is currently going through their Arab/Islamic Civil Sectarian World War where they have been slaughtering each other in huge numbers for the last 100 years and, it is only getting worse.
The Arabs called Palestinians mean nothing in terms of some overall conflict with the Jews or Israel. They are merely several different factions in this massive conflict of death and destruction.
The Arabs called Palestinians would have to stop killing each other and their neighbors and accept Israeli rule in order for that particular conflict to end...
Of course, this is a total pipe dream as NO faction in this massive fratricidal war appears to be willing to be ruled by any other faction without massive resistance in the form of murder; destruction; and war....

So, no, there is no inherent conflict between Jews and Muslims. Orthodox Jews would be allowed, by Jewish Law, to pray in a mosque whereas they would not be allowed, according to Jewish Law, to pray in a church.

However, the death cult Islam that has replaced normative Sunni Islam with Wahhabism and, now, is replacing normative Shia Islam with the Iranian cult of Wilyat al Fiqh, has been blaming Jews and other of the "Far Enemy" for its incredible hatreds and dissension within its own ranks for a long time now.

Based on history, the only way that Muslims and Arabs are going to ever stop their current insanity is for a significant number of Muslims and/or Arabs to be completely wiped out.
Unfortunately, if they do this to themselves, there are going to be large portions of humanity and planet Earth that are going to be destroyed along with their own self immolation.

Until Muslims or Arabs can solve their particular self destruction, there will be no peace between Muslims and the rest of the world, including Jews.
