Joe Manchin Third Party Candidate For President?

What makes you think there will be "a strong third party candidate"?
I don't. I was responding to those who say they want a strong third party candidate. The history of third party candidates is that none of them have any chance. Why they run is beyond me. The history also indicates spoilers, like Nader in 2000 with Bush, and Jill Stien with Trump in 2016. Ross perot had a shot, but I think the numbers still were too low, and he dropped out before the election.
  • Who might this candidate be?
The only scenario I can see this cycle is if the RNC drops Trump and runs someone else, and Trump runs as independent.
What makes you think s/he "could would likely take 60-80 EC votes and Biden and Trump splitting the rest"? The strongest third party performance in the 20th century was Teddy Roosevelt (88) in 1912 and George Wallace (46) in 1968.
  • Again, who might this candidate be?
  • Given this candidate, what percentage of this hypothetical 60-80 EC vote deficit is likely to come from each of the two major parties?
There is no thrid party that competes nationally, so I don't think there can be one. The question was about a STRONG third party candidate, and those don't exist. IF there was one I can't see it getting any more than 60-80, and my guess is based on Trump running independent. I can see him winning some deep red states.

There needs to be a national third party movement to be viable. But my question is what will their platform be that makes them any better than democrats? The republicans have narrowed their platform, and the democrats have absorbed what they have abandoned, and become very broad. That's why Manchin and AOC can both be democrats. I could see a far left party as Social Democrats, and that will limit democrats to be moderates. That might open the door to a more three way split among voters. Conservatives need more options, as I can't believe about 40% of citizens line up with Trump and MAGA.
