If I recall correctly I said when this legislation passed that this issue with requiring people to purchase health insurance was going to run into constitutional trouble.

It is unconstitutional and without precedent.

I understand it was a compromise with the GOP who didn`t want a public option but any Democrat who didn`t see this coming is blind.

The Republicans keep setting the Dems up like little bowling pins so they can knock them right back down later.

Let this be yet ANOTHER lesson in the futility of compromising with the right wing.
I`m just wondering when this lesson is gonna take hold and if I`ll still be alive to witness it.

That's a rather extreme view of things.
Even if it's unconstitutional, that doesn't mean the USSC will rule that way.
They could've believed it would survive challenges. It might still.

Not at all, I`ve watched my country`s political process closely for the past decade.

There can be no compromise with the ideologues that control the Republican party at this time.

They are willing to watch the world burn if they don`t get their way.

I believe they will have a front row seat at the bonfire they helped create.

It's funny how when a number of other judges declare healthcare reform as constitutional and hold up gay marriage rulings as being constitutional. declaring "Don't ask, Don't tell" as being unconstitutional, etc., conservatives belly ache and moan about those pesky "liberal" judges. Yet the one time a judges rules in their favor judges are great and "constituionally literate!"

Hard to argue with that.

On this slap I agree with the conservatives. Why was mandatory issuance was included in the bill? To keep insurance companies in the deal. They could keep make the big bucks by forcing new customers. This is the biggest problem with the bill and why many Americans hate it. Obama should be grateful and let the courts have there way. Let the conservatives have their victory. It just might be the end of the struggle on this bill.

I fail to see how Democrats can claim to be hoodwinked in this process.

It takes a certain attitude towards governance to demand that the mandate be pushed through because of the Commerce Clause. That attitude is one of believing that the Constitution no longer limits the power of the federal government. Watching a video of Representative Pete Stark (D) on this very issue and asked that specific question as to the limits of federal power he stated he believed that there is basically nothing the government cannot do.

The scary thing to me is that, in situations such as this (or situations involving getting touch on crime and conservatives) a large number of people have no problem if the federal government or SCOTUS sets the Constitution aside as long as it gets what they want through legislation. An end justifies the mean mentality in regards to centralized power is never a good thing.

That's quite a bait-and-switch there.

What you accused him of was casting one side as angels and the other as demons (or devils or whatever). That's quite a bit different from "demonizing the opposition". Saying republicans are crap is just stating facts. Saying that doesn't mean you think democrats are God's gift to the world, or even that they're any good at all.

Try not assuming next time.
