Justify creationism over evolutionism

Hi,

I'm an open minded chap & I believe everyone has the right to have their say.

What I would like to ask is why you think I should expose my child to religion. I'm quite happy for my child to learn about ALL kinds of religions & their ways, but I'm really not happy about some schools teaching my child that "God" is a real person, when it's quite obvious that "God" does not exist!
It's a bit contradictory for a parent to send their children to religious schools to learn about the FACTS of science only to be told that "God" created the world in 7 days!
I can explain to child the reason why the earth is round or explain how an aeroplane flies or how a plant uses photosynthesis to grow. I can even show them diagram’s to help them learn. But what do I say when my children ask "How did God create the world in 7 days Dad?

I think it's about time that religion was taken out of schools! We don't need it anymore! It is a fascinating piece of history, but it is out of date & ridiculous!

That he didn't? Your kids will believe you over their teacher.

Also, try talking to the teacher or principal perhaps?

My kids ask some similar things, but it's coming from other kids, not their teachers. It leads to some interesting discussions.

No, religion shouldn't be taught in public schools if it is against the government's laws. But that's why we have private schools. However, you're going to have a pretty hard time trying to prevent your kids from EVER being told that there is a God, considering that the majority of the population does in fact accept the possibility of a creator, by whatever means. In fact, quite a lot of them accept this idea so much that they embrace faith, even religion.

And besides, when you send kids to school, it's not like their impressionable minds never question anything. If they've got a responsible parent who is willing to answer all their questions, then what do you have to worry about?

I agree with an idea I heard Dan Dennett propose. Basically expose your kids to ALL religions. That way they are much more likely never to adopt any.

Errmm... You what now?
when it's quite obvious that "God" does not exist!

Prove it! :p

If you mean within the limits of human imagination, I'd agree with you.

Concerning the rest of your post, do you have any intention of killing your children's imaginations, because that could well be a by-product of not teaching them about religious lore and mythology.

I can think of an even worse question as a result of this: "Daddy, what happens when we die?"

Anyways, the story of Jesus is a very useful story that everyone should be taught. (excl. the resurrection if you want to be really picky!)

That makes you close minded. Religion is valid, i believe in it and i think God exists as much as you and I.

This terrible excuse for a nation i live in is one of the most racist countries in the world. I am a Hindu and the geniuses (whites and blacks) cannot tell the difference a Muslim and a Hindu. Insults that were supposed to be directed to a Muslim, were directed towards me. Call it evil, but i'd rather they do it to the right people...

How is that different from saying, "that makes you close minded. Religion is invalid, I don't believe in it and I think god doesn't exists as much as you and I?" Why is someone who doesn't believe in god considered close minded, as opposed to the one who does? It's a two way street bub.

Errmm... You what now?
Are you advocating answering my children’s questions with material I believe to be false?

Are you going to tell them there is nothing?

Every human has some element of hope. Even if you deny it now, you'll change your mind when you are 80 with prostate cancer.

I did not say that, i said i think God does exist. In a time where we should be teaching more in schools, world events, its close-minded to say we shouldn't teach it because they are old and outdated beliefs.

Yeah, why is someone who doesen't believe in God considered close-minded? Because i know i did not say that.

I have no problem with teaching children about religious beliefs as long as many different religions are taught with no favouritism.

Exactly, and Christianity has always been given favouritism in my education, and even now, we are studying Hinduism, it makes it look like a silly tribal religion. I wish they would get more philosophical, then i think people would really appreciate Hinduism.

Why should any religious beliefs be taught in any public school. Any religious beliefs need to be taught at home. If you have no beliefs, then teach your children why.
No one has any right to guide your childrens beliefs but yourself.

They should be taught because religion is a part of everyday life and has influenced almost everything you see in one way or another. No schools are telling a child what to believe, but educating them on other cultures. I would hate to have an ignorant little child who knows nothing of any children.

Seconded.
