Is it possible to know whether or not you're "saved" before you die?
If so, how?
Bonus question: "saved" from what exactly?

Saved from what?
According to Islam, just before you die, you will know how bad you have been by what happens. (In Islam, we are told what happens to the soul and how it is taken out of the body and then in the grave it tells you what you will go through). Then after you are raised up for the judgement you will be judged by your Creator. You will then know.
But if you are speaking just informatively no one knows because in Islam, we believe to not take God for granted. You can be a muslim all your life and just before you die, do something that takes you out of the fold of Islam and find yourself in Hellfire. Then for a nonbeliever he could be doing bad all his life and just before he dies does something that Allah has mercy on him and admits him to Paradise.
Allah is the judge not man. We are not allowed to say to anyone they are a disbeliever until it is known and proven.
I believe it is not so great to be a Muslim to have to face that. I am glad I don't have to be in that state.

Saved from what?
Well, if you are an alcoholic, you can be saved from substance abuse.
If you live in anger and hatred, you can be saved from those feelings.
There are many ways in which people can be saved.
And it certainly includes be liberated from all the negative human experiences we encounter.
I think most folks certainly believe that standard psychological counseling can provide benefits. If you have been the victim of profound violence from an abusive father, talking with a professional, can often help you in your life.
So, we already recognize the concept of "being saved" in a psychological sense.
The religious sense of being saved is somewhat similar. What we are being saved from is the compulsion to do wrong. And by wrong, I don't mean not following some authoritarian rules. I mean being saved from actions which harm other people.
Real sin is harming other people.
Being saved from that, only helps the person addicted to vicious behavior and generally helps society by reducing crime and other harmful actions.
I am pretty sure that there are professional studies in the discipline of the social sciences that show that the practice of religion has a direct effect in reducing crime, substance abuse and on.
Doesn't make sense what you are saying. Because in Christianity, you are born in sin-every innocent baby has sin attached to it. It doesn't describe the type of sin at all. Those who claim they are saved (as I did in the past), they still sin and the compulsion is there no matter how you look at it. The sin is always there and hasn't gone away so the crucifixion is someone mute. The most prominent preachers on tv, preachin the gospel even had sex with prostitutes so where was the holy spirit guiding them into all truth? I do believe it deserted them....because sin will always be a part of man. In Islam, No one has to die for another it's just how our Creator created us. He sent his LAST message to the world and again, it's their choice to believe or not
We don't punish the innocent for what others do...just not right Allah is the most Just.
I have to run soon, sorry.
But you are referencing only one religious view. There are many, many others. The Fundamentalist movement in America is only a very small portion of Christian thought. It does not represent the majority of Christian thought and certainly not in history, since it is a relatively modern movement.
I have read the Koran. I love the Sufi poets and have deep respect for Islam.
But do remember that the Koran declares David, Solomon and Jesus to all be prophets of God.
How do you know there is a God? How do you know God is a judge? If God exists, how do you know which god's commandments to follow, or, within a given religion, which denomination's practices to follow? This is an excellent question which I live with everyday. The truth is I don’t know how God will judge me when I pass to the next world BUT I can know if I am obeying God’s laws and commandments, trying to or not trying to. If I deliberately don’t care to do the right thing and cause harm and suffering deliberately to others then I can expect to be brought to account. But if I try, despite my weakness to obey His laws, then I can be hopeful of God’s Mercy and Forgiveness.
But there is no way of knowing if I have won God’s Good Pleasure in this life.
I thought Christians believed everyone sinned; all fell short.I believe I am saved from sin.
