La pensée unique: a freedom of thought conundrum

I am realizing how there is a very saddening ideological drift, that the expression "pensée unique" sums up perfectly. Pensée unique - Wikipedia
In fact it deals with a term that the French language has adopted to describe the tendency, certain mainstream media have, to monopolize information. And especially, to decide what information is and what is not, and to impose this decision to the public.

Actually in juridical systems like the French one, la liberté de penser, expresses the notion of liberty much better than "freedom of speech".
Because it implies that the random citizen has the right to think whatever they want. There are no limits to their thought. They can invent an ideology, they can think of the most absurd things ever. And they can express them by speech.
And so the mere term "disinformation" cannot be used to silence a free citizen. Since the random citizen is not supposed to be a information source (as media are).
But the unbearable thing is that people want to impose the pensée unique to random citizens too.

So the freedom of thought goes beyond the freedom of speech.

Back in the day the ordinary citizens didn't have much of a reach when they wanted to speak to the public. Nowadays though, many people have a following of millions through social media. Imagine the risk of letting them speak out of their minds and spread misinformation with absolute freedom.

That's exactly the point. Back then the absolute monarchies could exploit and deceive their own "subjects" because of communication barriers and illiteracy. So people were isolated and used to fall victims to feudal tyrants more easily.
Nowadays social medias keep governors such as parliaments and governments under control 24/7, so if they dare violate constitutional freedoms or deceive the citizens, the latter will overwhelmingly expose them on social media. They need to be monitored 24/7, otherwise they can cheat people.

Of course those tyrannical leaders who would like to be able to do literally anything in spite of the people, hate social media and would like to censor them.

So, if we are speaking of tolerance and empathy, it is the so called conspiracy theorists who cultivate them
I can think of two examples where conspiracy theorists don't cultivate tolerance and empathy. One is the election was stolen in the US, the other is the Qanon that cultivates hate and intolence towards a certain group in the US.

I don't like what is going on social media. It is creating echo chambers where what they already believe is reflected back to them if the person doesn't watch out and seek independent sources it controls the minds of it's victims. I have no solution to that except what I just said, look outside that echo chamber.

Actually on social media people holding different views can debate peacefully.:)
