One can tell in the U.S. if someone is rally "pro-life" or just "anti-sex". In the U.S. Planned Parenthood does far more than just offer abortion services. They offer a whole gamut of reproduction health care. Including contraceptive education and supplies. It can be shown that communities with a Planned Parenthood office have fewer abortions than those that do not. Prevention is both cheaper and lowers the abortion rate. Why do so called "pro-life" people oppose this?

The US situation is a bit pecular and really relevent to the thread since the OP is from Norway.

In ggeneral, most "pro-life" people are concerned with preservin the institution of motherhood over the dead bodies of women, their fundamental rights or the prosperity and flourishment of society in general. It's a case of deontological ethics pushed to the absurd.

I disagree with my point (mother should die; child should live); but, logically, wouldn't people who care more about child abuse than adult abuse would want the child to live at the expense of his or her mother's lives?

Sometimes late term abortion is needed because the baby will die in utero, which can kill the mother with sepsis infection. It is, in fact, how Savita Halappanavar died. Other times, the pregnancy has to be terminated because the mother is seizing (due to something like severe eclampsia) which means the mother isn't stable for surgery (caesarian.) Same with things like aneurysms.
If a late term abortion is being done, it's because there's no other choice.

Late term abortion is among the most medically necessary procedures. Does it suck? Sure. But I would rather people mourn the potential than have to bury the actual.
By that I mean I see it as more practical that an already existing human being, who may even have others she is financially supporting get to keep her. Then lose both or just the actual. The potential human ain’t out there earning a living and feeding others. They haven’t made any memories, any true long lasting bonds. It will be sad and I’m sure the couple or woman or polyamorous/polygamous group who would be raising the potential will mourn. But the health of the mother comes first because that is the most practical approach. That is the approach that causes the least amount of long standing consequences. Loss of a parent, loss of house, loss of income. The potential to leave other children as orphans to be shuttled off to live under the care of the state. Which stretches resources. That is the reality. That is the system which we live in. Ideally we could save both. But this is the real world and not everything ends with happily ever after. Just a series of ever increasingly depressing outcomes. Sometimes you just have to pick the one that is the least harmful overall.

I think any abortion is terrible but folks get to choose their own level of moral outrage.

Only that isn't the choice in almost all cases. The fetus relies on you living. There is rarely a choice between mother or child. It is a choice of saving the mother or non of both.

IMO:

Late term abortion usually should be avoided, as you kill a living creature

Not just for humans, but also for animals; as you kill a living creature

To kill after being born also should usually be avoided of course

Hydrocephalus can cause the baby's head to become so large that there is no way to extract it from the mother without totally dismembering the mother, and even then the baby may not survive, but the mother will surely die. A partial birth abortion is a gruesome choice to have to make if you want to save one life instead of losing two lives.
