Layed off

I write this with a heaviness in my heart. For the last six months my wife and I have been working at a glass factory. It payed enough for us to get by and had plenty of benefits (insurance, etc.). It was easily a place I could see us retiring from. While we were working through a temp service at the factory and knew that there was a chance of being layed off for a little bit this winter, what has happened is going to deal a heavy blow on us and many others. The place employed many people through the temp service and usually hired people after working a year. Last year there was a lay off for two weeks. If that is what happened this year I wouldn't be writting this. Many people who have been there many years state that this year is the worst they have ever seen it. They have layed off and fired many people. My wife and I were the last of a small handfull from the temp service that were told that last night was going to be our last. While we had an idea that this was going to happen, we were holding on to hope that it might not. They told us last few that the reason that we were the last few is that we were going to be the first to be called back. The problem is that they also stated that it wouldn't happen until next spring at the earliest. Before I was working there I was a forman for a masonry company. While it payed really decent money there are absolutely no benefits and a lot of money is spent on traveling (gas). I will have to go back to that for the winter and see how it pans out. My wife is not sure what she is going to do yet but we are both worried about how the winter will turn out. With my youngest boy's bithday coming up in a couple of weeks and Christmas coming soon, we are having to make some cutbacks in hope's of being able to pay the necessary bills and have somewhat of a decent winter for the children. One of the first things that is going to have to go is our ISP so for now this is good bye. I hope to be back next spring for "round three". You all will be trully missed and I hope there is no hard feelings towards me because of anything I have stated in here. If there is, I offer my sincerest apologies. I will be able to stay online for a week or two, but that is about it. I hope to see you all again very soon.

Until then.....

Sincerely,
James/SoliDeoGloria

I'm so sorry to hear that, James. Please know that you'll still be in our thoughts. We'll be looking forward to your (hopefully soon!) return! I know it can be really hard to have to go without an internet connection for very long. If there's a library or anything nearby, I would try visiting once a week or so, if your gas budget can accept that. For me, at least, it helped to do that so that I remembered my support system and didn't get too flustered.

James,

I'm so sorry to hear that you're going through all of this. And you'll be missed.

My husband and I are currently recovering from a lay off. I'm going back to work after staying home with the kids for several months. I know how hard this can be and I want you to know that you and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

It can be tough. I know from personal experience but God will provide. God bless you and yours,

Dawn

Edit: My husband was the one laid off. He's a pipefitter/plumber and had to leave the union that he was a part of. In doing so, he's a taken a job that provides more stabile work but the flipside is that he took a substantial enough pay cut that I'm going back to work.

I know what you're going through. The company I work at is talking about layoffs in the next couple of months. Anyway, I'm truly sorry to hear about this and I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks guys. It means a lot to see the support. I'll try to visit as much as I can and will surely let you know when I can come back on a permanent basis. Your prayers and thoughts mean more than you know. This isn't the first time we have been through something like this so I know God is more than able and faithfull to get us through. You all will most certainly be in my thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely
James/Soli Deo Gloria (To God alone be the glory)

How terrible! :(

You and your family are in my thoughts, James. You will definitely be missed, for your point of view is often times very intriguing. It will be nice to see you again if and when the time comes. But for now, I know that you will find a way to care for your family. It sounds like you have your priorities straight. :flower:

Take care. Carpe diem.

Peace,
Mystic

I really am sorry to hear your news. I can't imagine what it must feel like; especially since you will both be laid off. I was genuinely lucky that nothing like that happened to me, during my working life.

I really hope something better comes along soon, and we'll hopefully see you back soon. All the best!:(
