LDS and Evangelical men – Discussing spiritual truths for the sake of our families

Dear LDS men who have been granted federal headship in a household of faith. The “LDS Articles of Faith” Thread has been closed. I embrace the promise of Romans 8:28; therefore I am starting a new Thread that has grown out of the “LDS Articles of Faith” Thread. As you mediate on the Scriptures below, you will see that God has ordained the family structure by His design for our good and His purposes. In the 21st century, men in general have abdicated their spiritual leadership role. Women tend to lead families in religious responsibilites. This is not God’s intended design. Therefore, our families suffer when we disobey God. Study this truth in the light of Genesis 3.

I am starting a discussion and debate between LDS men and Evangelical men who have been granted stewardship over the spiritual well beings of our wives and children. Let’s debate official LDS doctrine and Evangelical doctrine in regards to the implications of spiritual truths and how it affects our families. As men, we provide for our families temporal needs through work. However, do we provide for our families spiritual needs, or do we abdicate this God ordained role to our wives? If any LDS men are interested, please start our discussion for the spiritual well beings of our families.

Sincerely written - BT

1 Peter 3:7

Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.

Ephesians 5

Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

1 Timothy 2

A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.

1 Corinthians 11

Now I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God…For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.

Sexism is not allowed. Jesus Christ and the Father never intended that men would rule over women. It was Paul who wrote those verses you are referring to. II know that my husband will not respond to this because in our family we are equal. We may have differring responsibilities, but we are equal.

I don't think BT is being sexist here, these are his beliefs based upon the Bible.
Hasn't anyone heard of this belief/way of living before?
It might be worth the debate, unfortunately, i wont be participating, got dishes to do!! He!He!;) :D

Do you believe the verses I quoted in Thread 1 to be the Word of God? Are LDS members responsible to obey those particular verses, or have they been incorrectly translated? Are you saying the LDS church rejects the teaching of the Apostle Paul? Dear LDS women, please let your husbands read the Thread and decide for themselves. - BT

President Ezra Taft Benson gave husbands the following counsel:

"Once you determine that a high priority in your life is to see that your wife and your children are happy, then you will do all in your power to do so. I am not just speaking of satisfying material desires, but of filling other vital needs such as appreciation, compliments, comforting, encouraging, listening, and giving love and affection." (In Conference Report, Apr. 1981, p. 47; or Ensign, May 1981, p. 34.)

I'm well aware of what's in the Bible and just because it beliefs come from the Bible doesn't mean it's not sexist. It misunderstands the doctrine. Finally, debates with it are useless.

Everyone is free to their own interpretation. Its interpretation is sexist. That's my interpretation of its interpretation.

The Restoration of Truth
The Gospel Blesses Families and Individuals

What's missing in my life?
God has established families to bring happiness to His children, allow them to learn correct principles in a loving atmosphere, and prepare them to return to Him after they die. Because families are ordained of God, they are the most important social unit in time and in eternity.
Marriage (Genesis 2:18) and family ( Genesis 1:28) are central focal points in God’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children. Your Heavenly Father wants you to do all you can during your time on Earth to prepare yourself to live in an eternal family.
Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on sound principles, like those that Jesus Christ taught. These principles include faith in Jesus Christ, prayer,

Repentance

The process of experiencing sincere regret or sorrow for wrongdoing, confessing one’s sin and asking for forgiveness, making restitution for any damage done, and committing not to repeat the sin. Repentance is made possible by the Atonement of Jesus Christ, who paid the price for the sins of all humanity.

repentance?, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities. A home established on gospel principles is a place of refuge and safety, where the

Spirit of the Lord

Also called the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God, and the Comforter. He witnesses, or testifies of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and reveals and teaches the truth.

Spirit of the Lord? can abide, blessing family members with peace, joy, and happiness (“ The Family: A Proclamation to the World”).

No marriage or family is perfect. When dealing with challenging relationships, it may help to remember that each person on this earth is a beloved son or daughter of God and has a divine nature and destiny. Learning to love and serve your family members, as Christ taught, will help you become more like your Heavenly Father and will help you prepare to live with Him again in an eternal family.

The First Presidency and Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

We, the First Presidency and the Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator's plan for the eternal destiny of His children.

All human beings—male and female—are created in the image of God. Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny. Gender is an essential characteristic of individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose.

In the premortal realm, spirit sons and daughters knew and worshiped God as their Eternal Father and accepted His plan by which His children could obtain a physical body and gain earthly experience to progress toward perfection and ultimately realize his or her divine destiny as an heir of eternal life. The divine plan of happiness enables family relationships to be perpetuated beyond the grave. Sacred ordinances and covenants available in holy temples make it possible for individuals to return to the presence of God and for families to be united eternally.

The first commandment that God gave to Adam and Eve pertained to their potential for parenthood as husband and wife. We declare that God's commandment for His children to multiply and replenish the earth remains in force. We further declare that God has commanded that the sacred powers of procreation are to be employed only between man and woman, lawfully wedded as husband and wife.

We declare the means by which mortal life is created to be divinely appointed. We affirm the sanctity of life and of its importance in God's eternal plan.

Husband and wife have a solemn responsibility to love and care for each other and for their children. "Children are an heritage of the Lord" (Psalms 127:3). Parents have a sacred duty to rear their children in love and righteousness, to provide for their physical and spiritual needs, to teach them to love and serve one another, to observe the commandments of God and to be law-abiding citizens wherever they live. Husbands and wives—mothers and fathers—will be held accountable before God for the discharge of these obligations.

The family is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan. Children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity. Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities. By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families. Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children. In these sacred responsibilities, fathers and mothers are obligated to help one another as equal partners. Disability, death, or other circumstances may necessitate individual adaptation. Extended families should lend support when needed.

We warn that individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring, or who fail to fulfill family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God. Further, we warn that the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets.

We call upon responsible citizens and officers of government everywhere to promote those measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family as the fundamental unit of society.

This proclamation was read by President Gordon B. Hinckley as part of his message at the General Relief Society Meeting held September 23, 1995, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Hey Nutshell,

Are you a member of "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints"?

What is the official teaching on the family by "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints"?

Has God ordained you to be a family man? - BT

oink oink.

Are you upset that we treat women as equals and partners? is that the problem?
oink oink.

Comprehend,
Does the Word of God have any authority over you? If you have a very low view of Scripture, why do you insist to be called a Christian? Meditate on the truth of John 17:17 for light.

Hey Comprehend,

You don't have to participate in this Thread. I believe if the LDS women have a problem with this Thread, there argument is between the author of the Bible and not with me. Maybe their ordained federal head husbands can help them understand the Scriptures posted? I believe the answer to their objection is found in Genesis 3 (hint- curse of God addressed to Eve and all women). The Bible is a spiritual book revealing spiritual truths. In the Evangelical Faith, understanding biblical truth is the work of God the Holy Spirit through illumination. - BT :)

right..... because women are so stupid that they need a man to explain the bible to them..... that really is impressive.

One of my favorite Disney quotes:

Belle: "Gaston, you are positively primeval."

Gaston: "Why thank you Belle."

*Paul*

Jesus loves you
I thought this was the LDS way to be honest. I have a friend who is a mormon who explained to me that motherhood is his wifes ministry and that they get it easy because they get to congratulate themselves. He also explained to me that he is the spiritual head of the house which is part of his ministry, he is able to give his children a fathers blessing or anoint them with his ointment if they are sick, if he doesn't misuse it.
Their roles are definatly defined and seperate and the reason is because of their understanding of LDS doctrine.

Are there LDs doctrines or scriptures to oppose this?
