Too many ads making site way too slow for me to use. Each page takes a few seconds to load. And not paying a subscription fee to use an internet forum out of principle. Besides, many of the regular posters seem to have dropped off of RF for the most part. The new "features" are fine, but I'm here for interaction and discussion, not smilies and alerts. It's been fun - see you around.
You are correct.
It's a pain in the fingers.
I don't blame you one bit.

maybe after your fingers heal....you might visit.....

For those that said things were simple before and worked fine, this was simply not the case from someone's perspective that runs the forum. There were serious security issues with the old software and there were serious design flaws in how the site works for people who use mobile devices, which now accounts for almost half of our traffic.
and the pop-ups help?

We show three advertisements. That is it. You can't go on to any major website and see less than that. On top of that the ads are the last thing that loads on the page so it should not be causing any slow down at all.
and we have to wait on the load up.

is this an item by item effort?

Yea, the way new browsers work loading is "simultaneous" so if you have anything hitching on the page everything hitches. Anyway, I've been getting third party ads from things that for sure have no connection to RF and are mined from Google. I'm just at "adblock them all" and disable tracking cookies. I still can't imagine people would click ads at all so I think they are an unnecessary annoyance. It's better to charge for premium features rather than make ads, imho. Or, just go the PBS route... Memberships are donations, and with your donation you get something cool the RF staff puts together that other people don't get. :)

Adblock Plus is one of your best friends when it comes to internet searching (NoScript is also a great friend of mine). Adblock does exactly what it's name implies, for free, and you get no adds, but you will get a bunch of sites complaining to you that you need to allow ads. By default, Adblock Plus is set to allow only non-invasive ads to be shown on your browser and nothing that is annoying or distracting, which means nothing with bright flashy lights, no sounds, no shakes or rumbles, and no video. Just plain basic text. However, you can set it to block all ads, giving you an ad-free internet experience.

Unfortunately, people do or those ads wouldn't exist. And with all the damn trackers and algorithms ad companies try to make it so that you are shown ads that are more likely to catch your attention and be things your are interested in (kinda like how Target sends diaper coupons to the home of a pregnant teenager who hadn't yet told her parents).

No one is clicking them unless it is by accident. :) Accidental clicks aren't a good business model. :)
