I saw the story about MTG being swatted the other day. It doesn't give one much confidence in law enforcement to see that they can be so easily tricked and manipulated like this. It's happened enough times in recent years that they should have implemented ways of preventing it.

At least the police are getting more educated in recognizing a swatting call now. As MTG related that her local police has been exemplary in this.

It's my hope the scum are found and properly prosecuted as there are instances where people have been killed already from this practice.

Definitely. I'm sure its in many police departments training regime that they might be used for swatting , and measures by detectives to get these scum of society are being developed to catch them.

From my understanding swatting started with video game players. Some genius sore loser came up with the idea of making a false police report about someone that was beating him in a video game so that he could "win" when the police arrived and shut everything down.

In the UK there is a specific offence called "wasting police time"

It can get you up to 6 months in prison

You obviously disapprove, but I notice you were silent when asked to comment on right-wingers doing the same, and I have to say I'm with you there in your partisanship, but rooting for the other team. I'm indifferent to anything the left does to the right. They've lost my empathy, and in my opinion, it is virtually impossible to be unfair to MAGA Republicans, which are the majority of elected Republicans. Trump is a good example. He claimed that the election had been stolen from him, which was a lie of course, but my thoughts were that if that were true, good job! And if he is thrown off ballots using legal sleight-of-hand, that's too bad.

Or when the Congress accuses the Democrats of partisan power grabs, my feeling is the same. If that's true, good luck to them. Keep grabbing as much power from them as possible. The right are the enemy now, not the loyal opposition they were when I was born in the middle of the last century. They were part of "we" then, but no longer. I have no more empathy for them than for Putin or Hamas, neither of which would it be possible to be unfair or unjust with.

I think they could have at least charged them with making a false report or misuse of the 911 system. Even as little kids, we were taught to never play around or pull the fire alarm unless there was a fire. Swatting is 10x worse, since people could get killed - and not just the person being targeted. If the perpetrator is an even bigger idiot, they might give the wrong address. Not to mention the flagrant misuse of police resources. All the way around, this kind of stuff has to be quashed.

I am sure that happened at least if they caught the guy. But those are misdemeanors at the most and I would prefer a felony charge.
