Legoland UK shut down after threats from right-wing

How blessed is the terrorist and the threatener of violence!
He sends some tweets, phones some newspapers, which costs him little, and LO! the organisation he threatens has to either obey him, or provide expensive and invasive security procedures.

Of course, this will make many Muslims feel resentful; maybe one or two will take some violent action against the "right-wingers", and that will justify the "RWs" id playing the same trick another time. They enjoy building up hatred!

Here's what's almost funny to me, if it wasn't so sad/scary: right-wing groups decry the actions of fundamentalist Muslims who cause terror, and yet their response is to cause terror themselves. I hope the irony isn't lost on them.

Shutting down a 1,000 family event just because of threats on a Facebook page is a bit extreme, too.

Britain's Legoland to shut after extremist threats

What does the right wing have against Legoland? Apparently Muslims having fun there. This is just sad.
Sorry, but did you even read the article you linked?

No only did you repeat the fraudulently misleading headline without comment (they closed their hotel because of the threats, the park was going to be closed anyway), you asked what the right wing have against Legoland when the reason for their objections (however stupid and disgusting they were) was the core of the article.

This isn't Facebook, where you can throw up some alarmist headline and get a bunch of knee-jerk (with an emphasis on the jerk) reactions, it's meant to be a forum for intelligent discussion.

Why was there a "Muslim family fun day", anyway, and what does it mean?
I'd like to know what some of these threats actually entailed, though. Threats of violence? Boycotting? Legal action?

The far right hate what they deem as "appeasement". This was a definite possibility. Muslims are one of the most commonly hated groups in the UK by the tolerance-impaired. Sad, but true.

HELLO! McFly!! Did you read the article? There were going to close the park that weekend TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC! Maybe you missed it but they had 'hired out the park' to a 'private event' that had to be cancelled.

We have Muslim Family Fun Day at Six Flags in America. The park is closed to the public for a day so Muslims can bring their kids somewhere fun without having to worry about anything haram (forbidden) going on. You won't find a barbecued pork sandwich that day, no girls in bikinis, no rock concert...that's all it is.

Parks like this close to the public for large groups who PURCHASE their tickets in advance all the time.

The Brits are rather crazy when it comes to stuff on the internet.
Yep. We Brits can't do freedom very well.

The choice of "Muslim family day" as a title invited trouble, unfortunately, because it probably implied "only Muslims" to these guys. These guys hate what they deem as 'pandering', and they have a pretty broad view of what they consider to be 'pandering', so a lot is considered it.

Wouldn't need to be Muslim day. I know plenty of Christian families that would happily give up pork to avoid slutty dress and typical rock music.

The objection was to the fact that the event was to be run by an organisation associated with Haitham al-Haddad. Look him up in Wikipedia: he was the man who called Jews "descendants of apes and pigs", wrote of the "scourge of homosexuality", and defended female genital mutilation. Do you still think his followers are innocent victims?

The wiki article certainly makes him look like the sort of Muslim hypocrite who will use secular freedom of western society to advocate for oppression and evil primitive culture.

But I don't believe everything I read on Wikipedia.

Neither do I, but in this case the allegations against him are all documented. You can even see his defence of FGM on Youtube.

And I'm none too happy about the idea of having an Muslims-only day. If some-one suggested a whites-only day, or a day when all Jews were barred, would there the same sympathy?

Why not take a step back, reread the OP, and rethink this post?

It seems rather lame that they canceled the event because of threats on Facebook. I would imagine the entire world would instantly lock-up if we all minded the online threats.

I did but I'm fairly happy with my initial response.

I'd expect it would depend on the nature of the threats and an assessment of the real threat they might pose. I agree that it would be stupid to react like this to the average troll but I'm sure Legoland get that kind of trash all the time just like any other company so there must have been something about this that made them think differently. I'll trust their judgement unless I see a good reason to doubt them.

I do think it's a little sad that Legoland are being attacked for choosing not to take the risk but ignorant thugs making the threats in the first place aren't even mentioned, even if they weren't serious.

Because you apparently don't know this, when you hyper-link a story like that here, it will typically show up as the news article here on the site. Such as, a direct link to the Yahoo story, even with the http:// and all the other stuff that directs your click straight to the story, shows up as:

So no, the OP did not intentionally repost a misleading title, and his question was taken straight from the article. And what does those right-wingers have against a day of Muslims having fun? That was the focus of the OP after all, some right-wing nut cases (the term right-wing more likely just being because Yahoo only produces very poor quality news) made threats against Legoland for having a day where Muslims can come and enjoy an outing while not worrying about things that are offensive (I can't recall the Islam term right now).

The thing with online threats, is they aren't too hard to receive. When you bow and yield to terrorist, you are letting them win. The only way to combat a force that wields fear is to show them you are fearless. Yes, there will be more attacks, and more people will die, but I'd rather the terrorist become furious that their attacks are not scaring people enough than letting them know they can have their way with just threatening people. Legoland does deserve criticism for allowing the terrorist to win. Much like how they won over America the way we said it's ok for the government to spy on us, have armed guards everywhere, and how we let ourselves become afraid. And instead of attacking them directly, we bombed to countries and mucked up Iraq's political and social environment. All the while we spend trillions of dollars, loose more lives in combat than the 9/11 attacks claimed, we have shown how pathetic we are at loosing to bullies. Legoland essentially tucked their tail between their legs, skimperrd off, and lost to a group of bullies.
