June there is a plethera of PRIDE festival marches over the States. If you are in the District of Columbia Metro area (US), here is info on the march here Pride 2018 Festival - Capital Pride Alliance

That would be soo interesting if some of our RFanians met as a group to the parade.

Salt Lake City's Pride Festival is the first weekend of June. The parade (which is huge!) is on Sunday morning, June 3. As always, I plan to march in it with a group called "Mormons Building Bridges." We are all LGBT supporters and love participating in this event. I'm really looking forward to it.

Actually, as a general rule, LDS people aren't particularly supportive of the LGBTQ community. The reason Mormons Building Bridges was created was to let the LGBTQ community know that we're not all the same and some of us truly are their allies. I never cease to be amazed at how easy it is to do something that makes so many people so happy. All along the parade route, people are high-fiving us and yelling, "Thank you so much." Many are in tears.

This year on Saturday, as part of the festivities, there's going to be a "Hug a Mormon" booth at the park where it's held. I'm also going to volunteer to give out as many hugs as I can during a period of several hours that day.

You made my day. I'd been in tears too. I was all that day at PRIDE.

That is beautiful. I bet people will be hugging you every minute. Helps people see we're making some progress on equal awareness regardless our moral and ethical disagreements.

Thanks! :leafwind:

I can't really afford to travel but I will likely be attending Orlando Florida's Pride Parade this year in October.

What about a march for those who are ashamed to be straight? there are a lot of people or are we still in the age where people care about where other people (aside from our dedicated partners) put their genitals and glands?

It goes both ways, the whole LGBT marches seems like a huge egotistical performance to no other cause....kinda like the royal wedding.

This thread is about LGBT pride. Feel free to start your own thread for straight pride if you want, but make sure not to derail this one.

I don't know if I will go to Pride this year. It's the same every year. If you don't have a lot of money to blow or people to hang out with, it's kind of a waste of time. It was only truly meaningful when I was 13 and just coming out as bi. The last time I enjoyed it was in 2013 with my mom. Now I don't really care.

Straight pride is equally as narcissistic, which is the point of my post - to comment on how it is egotistical, as I said nobody should give a **** about where anyone else puts their genitals and glands (and which genitals and glands one gets married too)

Sorry if I offended you and Jesster there

Pride marches are common with minorities, especially ones that faced or still face persecution.
I agree that we should not care about one's sexual preference, but pride events are sort of a cathartic experience for many. And a way to gauge support from the community. This is reassuring to some.
Of course one may look at it as egotistical and I can understand why. But it's usually more akin to a release of stress and a way to let one's hair (and guard) down.
I'm usually too lazy and anti social to attend the marches. But I don't begrudge them.
