Liberals Now Like Texas Anti-Abortion Law Tactic?

Sgt. Pepper

All you need is love.
You're new here, & misreading an old joke.
He says I'm Republican.
I say he's Nazi.

He feels the need to do this every now & then.
Who am I to refuse, eh.

Well then, I humbly apologize to you for the misunderstanding. My apologies. I didn't know it was an old joke.

Oh like vaccine mandates?
The government mandates all kinds of things: speed limits, childhood vaccinations, front brakes, hunting seasons, food inspections, medical certifications, pants....
How could we live together safely without a certain number of restrictive laws?

And notice that we haven't seen an attempt
to mandate vaccines for all. Government
here has less power than in some countries.

Texas seeks to circumvent constitutional law (SCOTUS ruling).
Californiastan notices, & thinks....
"Great idea!"
"That damnable Constitution is so inconvenient."
In response to Texas abortion ban, Newsom calls for similar restrictions on assault weapons
Excerpted...
The Texas Heartbeat Act, also known as Senate Bill 8, declares that it is illegal to perform an abortion after about six weeks of a pregnancy but gives the state no direct role in enforcing that ban. Instead, it authorizes private lawsuits in state courts against doctors or clinic owners who violate its provisions.

The new California anti-gun effort, Newsom said, would function the same way. Newsom said he was directing his staff to work with the state Legislature and Atty. Gen. Rob Bonta on a new law that would allow private citizens to sue manufacturers or distributors of assault weapons as well as ghost gun kits or parts.

"If the most efficient way to keep these devastating weapons off our streets is to add the threat of private lawsuits, we should do just that," Newsom said in the statement.

The governor's pledge to pass a law restricting assault weapons through private litigation is exactly the kind of legal gambit that constitutional scholars have predicted since the Supreme Court majority declined to block the Texas abortion law, said Khiara M. Bridges, a professor at UC Berkeley School of Law.

"Gov. Newsom is following through on the threat," Bridges said. "It’s just been academic up until now."
So you think that the objection to the Texas law was about thr tactic being used and not, oh, trying to ban abortion?

So you think there's no problem other than a threat to abortion rights?

There is no single objection.
Personally speaking, I oppose
- Making abortion illegal.
- Enriching lawyers by greatly expanding incentives to increase suits.
- Unconstitutional circumvention of the Constitution.

So you to are joining the race to the bottom, eh. Try giving people more of a reason to vote for your side than matching wrongful tactics & goals.

You have a different take on what kind of people those are than I do. If you are still somebody that votes for Republicans, you can't be reached by people like me. All I can offer are my values, my methods, my agenda, and my vison, which I know that these people have nothing in common with, or they wouldn't still be voting for Republicans. If I have to tell you why Trump is a monster, why bother? If you haven't realized that yet, it's not going to happen.

I saw a Facebook thread recently in which somebody commented on looking forward to Trump being indicted, and another asked for what? What crimes has he committed? I realized from experience that it is pointless interacting with such people, but read along as others began explaining what crimes were being investigated and what the known evidence was, and it got the usual response. It's always a waste of time trying to communicate with people who process evidence so badly that they can't see Trump as a monster or criminal. If I were conversing with a non-American not really familiar with Trump, I could make the argument, but not with a Trump supporter.

As for the race to the bottom, I've already explained that that is a false equivalence. Returning fire is not ethically equivalent to opening fire. I mentioned that I believe it's time to stop looking for diplomatic solutions to the Republican problem, and recognize that this is an enemy heel-bent on destroying sacred American traditions and institution, and that the battle is an existential one as surely as World War II and the Cold War were. Tis is a battle against those who don't respect the American way of life and intend to replace it with something closer to what the colonials rebelled against in the first place - an authoritarian regime that sees people as capitol to be exploited, people who consider the rule of law their law and their rule, people with no respect for democracy or church-state separation.

Race to the bottom? No join them in battle. They are like termites. They are there to destroy. They are not to be coddled. They need to be nullified. I support any activity that contributes to permanently and completely eliminating Republican rule.

You seek war.
I seek peace....even with my friends who think Democrats
are Satan's minions, & Democrats who want Republicans
dead. I give people the benefit of doubt that they can be
reasoned with to become better & productive.

I think you've misunderstood me. I don't seek war. I say that America finds itself engaged in a cold civil war with people who cannot be reasoned with and who intend to dismantle the democracy and gut the middle class. The clearest path to peace and to preserve the republic is to win that war.
