Life begins before conception

Smoke

Done here.
Life begins before conception? You laugh now, but there are about 5 candidates for the US Senate this year who will agree with that statement if given a chance.

I'm laughing, but in my youth I worked at a Catholic hospital, and I used to sit around and read Catholic magazines when there was nothing to do. I can't cite volume, number, and page, but I distinctly remember articles that said using contraception is murder. You're murdering those children who would otherwise have been conceived. Dogma is a wonderful thing.

The Bible makes it clear that life begins before conception. If it didn't, the Lord wouldn't have said to Jeremiah, "Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee." This shows that Jeremiah existed before he was conceived. Otherwise there would have been no "thee" to know.

I've read a few books by rabbis that ran along the same lines, but they were speaking of the soul rather than the body.

There's a story (sorry, not much of a theologian) that says that all Jews were present at Sinai, even those who weren't born yet. The rabbinical commentary states that it was their souls that were in attendance.
