I have been raised as a christian my entire life through a variety of Christian churches (Catholic, Lutheran, Baptist). However, I have only recently heard about the story of Lilith, First wife of Adam. Naturally this left me with a few questions. First of all, what is the full story, Second, is there any historical proof that it was originally included in the bible, Third, why was it not included in the bible (I'm sure all you Atheists will have a heyday with that one. Joking ). Thank you.

Thanks for the quick reply Maize. Would it at all be possible that lilith is the great whore of babylon refferred to in Revalations? (just speculation). Also, do have any rsponses to the other two questions?

Khale, I am not a Bible scholar, so I don't know the answers to your questions. I know of the story of Lilith, but not enough to discuss it really. I posted that link in hopes it would answer some of your questions at least until someone came along who knows more about this matter.

I read a book that talked of Lilith not so long ago (Steve Alten's Resurrection). Of course, its a fiction book, but he does a large amount of research to make his plot flow. I remember reading somewhere online about myths of the succubus, a female demon spirit that seduced men. Lilith came in there somewhere I think, but I can't remember exactly.

I'm very curious about the story of Lilith as well. Having been raised Baptist, I'd never even heard of it until recently. Thanks for the link, Maize; I'll be sure to check it out.

After Eve transgressed by eating the forbidden fruit, Adam did too. In reality, the transgression was sexual in nature. Adam's partner was a women named Laotta.

Some Bible translations don't use 'lîlît' as a name, but use things like nightjar, night owl, night demon etc. The connection to 'night' is pure folk etymology; the Hebrew word for 'night' looks almost the same as the word 'lîlît'.
