I agree. I don't think we should have manned mission just for the sake of having manned missions. If we're going to colonize anything beyond Earth, I think it should have been thoroughly explored and prepared by machines first. Before any humans arrive there should already be mechanisms in place to generate energy, water, and oxygen from the land/atmosphere, and have shelter and a greenhouse already set up, and probably need some advanced weather detection and protection. Until we can build and program machines to colonize the planet and prepare it for our arrival, it's just a waste of resources.

Any colonization would be done by robots.
The only remaining question is whether they'd be so pleased with their work that they'd keep it for themselves.
