Locals say the price of living in Broome means the town is losing its culture

'Indigenous families living in historical pearling towns such as Broome say they may be forced to leave their country unless the cost of living comes down.

Gentrification has made home ownership in one Western Australian town nearly impossible for long-time locals, with homes being bought up by interstate travellers and sea changers.'

Source: Gentrification means this family can't afford to buy a house on a street that's named after them

It seems as though there is a significant disparity in income levels between indigenous and non indigenous households driving the problem in W.A in my view.

"The average rent is $878 a week and petrol is about $2.05 a litre most weeks. A coffee costs $6.50 on average, electricity bills can run upwards of $500 and home insurance sees some families out upwards of $10,000 a year".

Now with Rex out of the picture I wonder if this will slow the city-slicker influx?
