Logic VS, Faith

Lon

BON APPETIT
Belief in any religion requires faith. My problem has always been that so much of religion is not logical. The different miracles for example defy logic. The Virgin Birth for example.

I think some of what was claimed might have been a dream, like Jesus walking on the water. Or maybe those who claimed to have seen Jesus' resurrection actually saw him in a dream of their own.

I am not specifically a Christian by label but I believe heavily in the paranormal and that it does occur in reality so the miracles would not be a tough swallow for me. Miracles/paranormal for me do not defy logic but show our everyday physical reality is just part of an even greater reality.

Yes, I do.:)
Do they defy logic? Do they defy science?
Of course they do. But I still believe them.

Ah, I am not a Christian; and my belief does not recognize faith. It needs evidence.

Then it's not really a "belief" then, is it?

That's why I commonly use the term "worldview" instead of "belief."

As an atheist and as one who accepts non-duality (Advaita), I limit myself to what science says with some certainty (Sigma 4 or whatever). I may have my guesses beyond that. :)

While I still hesitate to call myself an atheist, I, too, limit what I claim to be true when speaking with others to what science has demonstrated. Of course, I have hypotheses beyond that. ;)

You are reading these stories as if they were historical fact. Why? They are obviously religious myths, and parables; full of symbolism and metaphor, to help people better understand and deal with the great mysteries of life.

Faith isn't pretending that myths are facts. Or that hopes are certainties. Faith is choosing to trust that what we hope to be true, will turn out to be true, when we act on it. Faith is how we move forward in the face of the unknown. And this is not illogical at all.

Webster's: Faith: Belief; the assent of the mind to the truth of what is declared by another, resting solely and implicitly on his authority and veracity; reliance on testimony.

What evidence is offered?

Try definintion 2b1: firm belief in something for which there is no proof

I have no idea where you got your definition, but it's not from the M-W website.
