Sorry to hear that.

I think, 2 days (subsisted on tea, first job). Third day morning - Samosas. Praised the shopkeeper copiously.
He said 'when one is hungry, any food feels divine'.
Wonder, how could he know!
Oh my gods that first bite of food after not eating for two weeks! It was heavenly.

Interestingly you have to be careful reintroducing food after someone has gone through a long starvation period. Otherwise a disorder known as refeeding syndrome can occur. If you eat normal size or above normal size food amounts immediately after not eating for 2 weeks the body can receive a huge shock to the system and you can end up in a coma or even die. So I had to see a doctor and be careful reintroducing food after that. More info on that here:

True. Narmally 'refeeding' is with soups and 'Kedgeree' (Rice and yellow lentils, Mung). But it was not that long and I was young (65 winters have passed since that time). How the time passes! ;)

I was just curious and thought I'd ask...whats the longest you've ever been without food?

The longest that I’ve been without food was several hours beyond 24 hours. This was for a religious fast. While doing any kind of religious fast, I consume plenty of liquids such as water, tea, and milk.

I come from some place far away! Yes, that’ll do!

I don't think 2 days is long enough that if you eat immediately after refeeding syndrome would set in. But I actually don't know. Either way introducing foods slowly makes sense.

That would not have made sense to me at that time. I was ravenous. :D

Lol that reminds me of someone telling me eat said food slowly when they gave me a small amount of food after starving for two weeks. Said I dont want you to vomit. I did not listen and gulped it down.

Three days, for religious reasons.

There have been times that I've experienced food insecurity... times when I just barely had enough money to buy food for the week eating only the cheapest food I could find, but I never got to the point where I had to go without, or go to a food bank to avoid going hungry.

I suffered with food insecurity early on.. I remember scraping up enough change around the house to buy a box of spaghetti and spaghetti sauce, going to the store with my friend and buying said items. He took the bags, and we went out to the car... he dropped the bag and broke my sauce jar.

He was more upset than I was... he searched the car until he found another dollar(because that's what the sauce cost back then), mostly in pennies, and bought a new jar.

I've been known to miss a meal or two when i was beamed into a project. Nothing more serious than that.

I was just curious and thought I'd ask...whats the longest you've ever been without food? When I was a kid I once went 2 weeks without food due to neglect and proverty. That's the longest. Im now curious about how many people on here have faced that kind of starvation. If you can and would like to comment where you from as well. Im from North Carolina, USA

2 weeks.
It was a diet/weight loss contest. I needed money to pay for rent that month.
So I saved on food and also won the contest.

The biggest problem was that it is boring. Suddenly you have a lot of extra time on your hands. Time you normally spend preparing and eating meals.
Start to realize how much of our lives we spend in the pursuit of feeding ourselves.

I suppose this is where fast-food becomes popular.

From Holland

ca. 10 days no kcal, just shivambu (1994)
ca. 7 days no food/no liquid (2021.12)

But for me fasting (nothing is not good) unless I want to die. So, now I eat very pure and cleanse daily, then no need to fast

I notice this when I'm fasting, too. Though, I genuinely enjoy cooking, menu planning, and researching foods.
