I'm married with one 16 month old child. We are looking for a school for our son for when he is ready to enter kindergarten and grade school. We don't want to use the public school system for reasons I'm sure most people are aware of. It's a great concern for us that we find a safe school system and a wholesome community.
So we're asking for suggestions from the Buddhist community for schools and 'intentional communities'. We would especially like to hear about schools that have a specifically Buddhist essence. We don't have a need for any specific type of Buddhism (Theravada, Mahayana, Tibetan etc.), any reliable and sincere, non-cult field of Buddhism is fine.
I don't really know where to start looking for Buddhist kindergarten and grade schools.
We are willing to move anywhere in the USA to take advantage of a wholesome Dharma centric school system.
Our main interest is that our son be able to make friends with other children that are raised with Buddha Dharma values. Such as children who's parents have the same values of not allowing things like mainstream TV, movies, video games, violent pop-culture toys and games, etc.
And who hold as high value and teach by example the Brahma Vihara's, the Paramita's, and other Buddha Dharma values and principles.
Along with our search for schools. We are also interested to hear about Buddhist 'intentional communities'. Where families live in close proximity and cooperate due to shared interest in Buddha Dharma.
If anyone can point the way toward helping us find or where to start looking for intentional communities of a Buddhist persuasion we would be very grateful.
Even just suggestions for web sites or other forums where we could expand our search.
The Dharma has been the core influence in my life since I found it around the age of 15, I'm now 35. My wife is also of the same interest. We are both sincere practitioners and seekers and I believe we would be a helpful and productive contribution to any sincere non-cult Dharma community.
As I said before we are willing to move anywhere in the USA if we find the right community / school.
Schools and communities that are not specifically or exclusively "Buddhist" are fine, as long as they are based on the same essential values of Dharma (Brahma Vihara's, Paramita's, etc).
Thanks in advance for any help and information.
