Looking For Resources

I wish to learn more about Islam than I already do. I am too nervous to go to a mosque near me seeking answers. What are the best resources for me to learn and become more knowledgeable? Be it books, websites, podcasts, anything helpful. I am asking here because I am seeking answers from the perspective of Islam, seeking answers that are more substantive than just general facts. I have read a great deal from general knowledge sources, but I am looking to go deeper and more personal. I do not know if it would be proper for me to just go to a local mosque or if I would have the courage to do so regardless.

Thank you.

Islam is very complex, learn islam gradually practice according to your knowledge and ability. And don't be hesitated to ask on some religious forum such this one or yahoo answers and scholars.
However the best sources are Quran and Hadith.

Welcome to Islam DIR

These are a few suggestions I would recommend

1- For an on-line translation of the meanings of the Qur'an, please check this site:

http://quran.com/

2- For a book on the life of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, which is at the same time a good introduction to understanding Islam, I would recommend this book by Dr. Tariq Ramadan titled "In the Footsteps of the Prophet".

It is available on Amazon:

3- For web sites with more resources to understand Islam, I would recommend the following sites:

http://www.virtualmosque.com/

http://aboutislam.net/reading-islam/

http://www.islamicity.com/

When you are ready to visit a nearby mosque, please don't hesitate but try to choose a mosque that has a special arrangement for non-Muslim visitors, that would include a talk with the Imam and someone responsible for answering visitors' questions.

Wishing you happy reading and a fruitful journey for better understanding Islam

Please also feel free to ask any questions you may have.

With best wishes

Hi,

Welcome to Islam DIR :)
I can understand you are a bit nervous but I think going to a mosque would be a good idea it gives you a chance to interact with muslims and ask questions.
Most mosques are open to non muslims visiting and asking questions, they also offer free books and CD's.

There are quite a few websites I would recommend:

www.onereason.org
www.whyislsm.org
www.iera.org
www.bayyinah.com
www.bayyinah.tv
www.muslimmatters.org
www.qtafsir.com
