Lot and His Daughters

Ok, I've been going through a few Bible stories...

I was really puzzled by this:

Why didn't God punish Lot's daughters for raping him?

I tried to find out online and the responses seem to be that the daughters' actions were noble...

I'd really like to know what people in general think of this.

The progression of this story is interesting, Lot first offers his virgin daughters to a baying crowd intent on raping male? angels to satisfy his own bizarre sense of sexual propriety. later he himself is then improbably raped by his daughters which ultimately culminates in his being a direct ancestor of Jesus.

Maybe he was too busy saying get some at the burning cities of sodom and Gomora (However you spell those cities)

Okay I'll be serious now.
Maybe God favored the reason behind. Lots daughters wanted to carry the name of their family on. Maybe he found that to be a noble cause.
Maybe Lot secretly pleaded with God to not punish his daughters.
Maybe God did punished Lots daughter and the writer of Genesis didn't feel like he should record it or it was lost some how during these long years.

You do know that Lot and his daughters thought that they were the very last human beings on earth, right? They thought they were the same lone survivors like Noah and his family after the flood. They very nearly were, if it wasn't for Abraham's intercession. Lots daughters simply wanted humanity to continue...

If it wasn't wrong, why did they have to resort to rape? This isn't just a case of incest, it was raping their father, an old man.

It's weird that there isn't a clear morality to this story (that I know of).

I mean, God destroys Sodom and Gomorrah for its perverse sexual nature, but makes nothing of an incestuous rape scenario.

They got him drunk I believe, because he wouldn't impregnate them voluntarily.
In their minds, humanity was OVER if they didn't. Quite a motivation, don't you think? Extinction?

Not an answer but could it be because of the intent involved in the situation - instead of rape to get your jollies off and feel some sort of power over another (or whatever other malicious reasons are used) the purpose behind it was a naive idea to repopulate the planet... I'm guessing G-d would know the difference so maybe one is treated more lightly than the other, even as icky as it is??

Eww. I would not rape my father if we were the last people on Earth.
And plus, God could just add more people to the mix, which he seemed to do every now and then.

Wouldn't God hope that they would seek his guidance instead? They had direct contact with angels. They could have just asked for help. Is stupidity excusable in this instance?

I don't know. If G-d is all-knowing then pressumably there is no need to hope because the outcome of their choices is forseen. Excusable in my book, no :areyoucra - but I'm not G-d.

Doesn't God hope that his children will all turn to him? We can easily use a different word, like wish or desire.

Also, I didn't realise that God is flexible about his 10 commandments. How does one know if a situation would be an exception?

In a life-or-death situation, many commandments can be set aside. We are to live by them, not die by them.

So what happened then? Did they both have children?

Yes. The daughters of Lot were both virgins, BTW. Their descendants were Ruth the Moabite and Na’amah the Ammonite. From Ruth came David and some day the Messiah.

Didn't both daughters have a son each?
